Description

It had been quite some time since the AusWB Trials and that evening talking to the Captain about the arrangement he, Cal and herself had made regarding Grafsfell Island and the Dusanas. The actual move had gone quite smoothly with the help of Lyo and his crew, making it far easier for her to settle in. (Of course for which, she had to show her appreciation ). Her first matter of business was to ride out and survey the herds, who'd already been living on the island for several months. It only seemed fair to take Lyo along for the ride, introducing him to the horses he'd agreed to help protect.

The ride was peaceful and the sounds of summer drowned out Anne’s thoughts. The breeze, the buzz of insects, tack clinking. If it hadn’t been for Gunner abruptly jolting his head upwards, ears pricked forward, she wouldn’t have even heard or noticed the horses grazing in the distance to their left. Holding her hand out in a gesture for Lyo to stop, her eyes locked on the herd. They were at the edge of a cluster of distant trees, grazing away at the sweet summer grass. Looking over her shoulder to Lyo, she smiled. “It’s the bachelor herd.”

It was surprising what a rich landscape this island had - for being so isolated and exposed to the icy ocean, and that the island was bigger than Lyo had imagined.
He led Will alongside of Anne‘s fancy Dusana and gazed over the whole area, sometimes asking about her family, what her childhood adventures were. The hope was there that this would be a solid friendship over time even if he had a feeling that they will ccceeertainly at some point have and argument about -whos being in charge at the moment - . SHe gave off bosslady vibes when she was in work mode and it made her both attractive and a trigger for arguments.
Coming to a halt, Lyo was looking towards the spot Anne pointed to, and got all excited „Can we go any closer?“ he asked silently, not sure if the herd would mind a stranger.
“How close do you want to go?” she grinned, the question more rhetorical than anything. Lyo just gave Anne a face, very much hoping this was not a real question. She knew the bachelor herd well, and a quick headcount confirmed there were no new additions. Despite the time that had passed, and the new territory, Gunner and Will had both met the herd on numerous occasions and Anne held little worry that the stallions would react to each other poorly.
Clicking her tongue, she urged the black paint forward at a steady trot and it didn't take long before he was bellowing out to the bachelors, announcing their presence. The stallions heads all raised from their grazing, on high alert at the sudden presence of strangers, but as soon as Anne was close enough to let out a whistle, the herd seemed to relax in recognition of the woman.
She remained several hundred yards away, allowing the herd the opportunity to approach them rather than vice versa. “It's been these seven for a while now. All the young stallions have been rehomed over the last few years. That dark bay,” she pointed to an older, scarred horse near the edge of the herd, “used to be the lead stud for the biggest group, but he got pushed out about five years ago and he keeps this little bunch in line.”
RPS had a bunch of unnatural horses and one would think nothing can surprise these pirates anymore, but these creatures really had something about them. „They are beautiful“ Lyo whispered.

Whew!! Anne finally got to tour Lyo around the island and meet the Dusana horses. Running into the bachelor herd means they got to get quite a bit closer than planned, but their leader wasn't so sure about the newcomer
