From left to right:
Keril, a princess of the Kerivian empire who accepts a politically charged marriage offer to General Yvian which takes her to the northern territories of the empire. What she’s getting out of it is anyone’s guess, but at least it takes her out of the reach of members of her family who would love to see her dead. Keril is very intelligent and unfortunately loves causing trouble on purpose. She is the current emperor's grand-niece but also one of his favorite potential heirs.
Sasia, Keril’s attendant/personal mage/best friend. She’s originally from the far north but was purchased to work for Keril as a child because a soothsayer revealed that she would have a compatible personality (a rare feat when Keril is involved). She is level-headed and not easily flustered. Sasia does her best to protect Keril from the consequences of her actions.
Nzul, a shapeshifting spirit who is Sasia’s magical “partner”, they followed Sasia from the far north. They usually remain in the form of a lion or other big cat, but also occasionally appear in the form of a falcon. Perhaps not surprisingly, they also get along with Keril. Can be very sarcastic.
Kyraen, former prince/war shaman from the upper reaches who is now technically Risaul’s concubine due to being surrendered as part of a peace treaty. In actuality he’s Risaul’s tactician and also his fiance (although Kyraen has yet to officially agree to this). He does not get along with any of the other concubines. In fact, he does not get along with many people and has a prickly personality. Risaul finds him funny, though.
