Dante, High Warden of the archipelago. As the Kerivian Empire is the powerhouse in the south, the archipelago is the powerhouse in the north and it is entirely due to the lineage of the High Wardens. Like all members of his family, Dante is a very powerful magic user, but that does not come without cost. He has a gentle personality but few friends due to a combination of his high social standing and his health issues keeping him isolated from most other people. His main role is maintaining peace both within the archipelago and also between its two neighbors, the upper reaches to the northeast and the country I have not named yet to the southwest.
Nyari, a young man who was in the dubious “care” of the Royal Mage’s Society in the country that I haven’t named yet. He recently reached the age of majority and was able to get himself released from the RMA’s custody. His memory is extremely fragmented and he knows almost nothing about his past except for the fact that Dante played a large role in it. He went to find Dante to figure out how they knew each other, and is currently living with him and acting on his behalf doing things that Dante’s health doesn’t allow him to do.
Idrin, a young man with very complicated social standing. His father was a merchant from the desert and his mother was from the upper reaches, where he was born. A series of events and the death of his parents left him stranded in the badlands. He was taken in as a ward by a man who knew his father, and grew up among the nobility although he isn’t considered one of them. He’s a good friend to Princess Sielle and is essentially treated as one of her attendants. Unbeknownst to most people he is trained in the “magic” of the region and is very, very good at it. When war breaks out between the desert and the badlands, his already complicated situation becomes a whole lot worse.
Sielle, crown princess of the badlands. She has a friendly and open-minded personality and is the person who proposed an alliance marriage with the royal family of the desert. She was on her way to fill that alliance when someone attempted to assassinate her. Fortunately she was not in her residence at the time, having snuck out to get a better idea of what the desert culture was like. Currently no one of consequence knows that she is still alive. The members of her traveling party who survived retaliated in the name of revenge, which has blown up into a full-scale conflict between the two countries. During the initial chaos she was coincidentally rescued by a young mercenary named Tadj, who’s company has agreed to help her.
