Description
From left to right:Arasse, the younger twin brother of Princess Sielle. He’s very proud of his skill using Words of Power, and - considering his sister’s lack of skill - thinks that he’s a better fit for the throne. Thinks very highly of himself, and of his country as well. He holds some…more extremist views towards the desert and the undeniably ungenerous nature of their trade agreements. This makes him very popular with a certain segment of the nobility and the country is split as to which of the siblings they support. This does not change the fact that Sielle is the oldest, and therefore the heir. He does not support his sister’s idea of a marriage alliance, and thinks that she is betraying the interests of their country.
Tadj, the youngest son of a mercenary captain whose company usually makes their living escorting merchants along the trade routes in the desert. Although he can fight well, he’s more of a scholarly sort, and takes care of the company’s logistics. He rescues Princess Sielle when he is also caught up in the initial attack. Due to that chance meeting, he becomes obsessed with Words of Power and figuring out how people without magic may effectively fight against them. He is considered to be quite eccentric by the people who know him.
Yvian, a young general, popularly known as the dragon of the north. She wants to free her homeland from the clutches of the Kerivian Empire, and has wide reaching support. She accepts the marriage agreement with Princess Keril, although she has no intention of reining in her countrymen. Keril’s ambitions and strategic mind enchant her, and they find that they actually do suit one another quite well. Yvian and Sasia have much more of a strained relationship, although Yvian doesn’t make any actual moves against her (and knows Keril would always support Sasia first). Although she knows how to make an impression when she needs to, in general she’s a practical and unassuming person who doesn’t stand out unless she chooses to do so.
Risaul, the self-proclaimed Emperor of the far north. No one is really sure why, it appears he simply decided that he was going to conquer the north and has been doing an admirable job so far. He’s already laid claim to all of the far north and is already into the edge of the upper reaches. He takes concubines from all the tribes that he subsumes, although everyone knows that Kyraen is his favorite. No one really understands that either, especially because, as far as rumors go, they haven’t even slept together. He has a jovial personality, changes his mind frequently, and follows whatever whims he happens to have at the time. People tend to like him on a personal level.
