Description Forgot about this one. This is the bicep sleeve rip animation for the character Amanda from my animation series. I really enjoyed how this one came out, but this is another one of the animations that I wouldn't be able to use if I ever do restart my project. The main problem being that these files are too small and too low resolution. If I scaled them up they would become pixellated and at that point, would be better just to start from scratch.

Good memory! The animation is currently not on my plate at the moment. As much as I'd love to get back into animating, I have a handful of real life projects bogging me down.

I would love to. Unfortunately, FMG animations don't pay the bills. So it's difficult to choose between doing artwork for free and making a living. One day I hope to get back into animations, but that day is not here yet.

Well thank you very much. It makes me feel very fullfilled that someone drew inspiration from my animations. I think it's wonderful that you're going to school to study animation. No one could make a living off of doing FMG animations only, so to see that you are going to do general animation is a great thing to hear.

I've thought about commissions, but the truth is, I can't really charge enough money to make a living, and I wouldn't feel comfortable doing so. These animations have always been a hobby that I did for fun. When my life was much simpler, I had much more free time to do these animations every couple of weeks. It was hard work, but I enjoyed doing it and had the time to devote to it.

You see, I'm still doing animations for work, After Effects, Cinema 4D, all the programs you could think of. So it's just hard to find the motivation to draw and animate when there's so many other things I need to do.

Either way, thank you for your kind comment. It really made me happy to read it and I hope I will make another animation some day.

I am glad that made you happy ! well you see when I was young Ive watched many TV cartoons like johnny bravo and courage the scary dog (or something XD). I really liked that. and still cartoons are attradted to me cuz they are still fun to watch. also disney is a big inspiration to. their movies are taking a great step into 3d lately wich they are good in it. I also want to learn how to make 2d and 3d animations. and then theres the FMG. well when Ive searched for FMG animations you were the first deviant that google founded and it was very awesome to see your animations.

I always see FMG comics or read stories. but I always wonder, How would it be if it was set in motion? how would she sound, how will it go on you know. and thats why I want to learn animation. to make comics alive. I myself draw often comics aswell. I really like to do it but I also want to animate it someday. FMG animations are rare these days. and I hope that FMG animations will grow later in the years. cuz again a FMG is better set in motion. expecially with sound and voice etc.

If you're doing traditional animation in a frame by frame sequence.

Make the main key frames each stage of the growtn.

Frame 0 (small, clothes on)

Frame 4 (muscles appear through clothes.)

Frame 12 (Clothes start to rip)

Frame 16 (Clothes rip off)

The amount of frames you put into an animation determines how smooth the animation will be but will also take the most time. In most cases, you do not need to animate 100 frames for an FMG sequence. It's overkill and can actually detract from the animation. If you don't use enough frames, it will look jerky and ugly.

You need to find a good balance of frames. Aiming for 8 or 16 is a good start.

Once you have the keyframes, the important thing is that there's movement. Some people just draw a muscle figure, then draw another frame where it's bigger, than another frame where it's bigger, without any motion. The whole body needs to move in response to the growing muscles.

(This GIF was from King of Fighters that I tweaked. There's not that many frames, but you can see the transformation happen.)

This is the wrong way to do it:

My animations started off like the bottom one. So if yours is the same way, that's OK. Just know that there's still improvement that needs to be done. If you really want to learn great animation techniques, I recommend this book: www.amazon.com/The-Animators-S…
