Description The best way of making an autograph.
The other way of making an autograph.

When I was a kid, I did that quite often and I always ended up with marker spots and lines all over my hands.

Today is Children's Day! Yup, you've guessed - this piece is dedicated to 'em.

Now, if you're so smart, try and guess why she's holding that marker in such a weird way.
(and no, people, there isn't anything wrong with her hands...)

EDIT!

What? A DD??? For me??? Wait, what?
Now, that's just incredible. Seriously?
No, really, I'm shocked, happy like Santa after Christmas, cause he can lay around and do nothing, confused, shocked, happy and I really don't know what to say!
Just a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who at least visited this piece, to ~Color-Her-World for suggesting and to `joannastar for featuring!

Wow, I still can't get over it...

Haha I really loved really your reaction of the DD, it's really beautiful that people get so excited, I'd love to get one someday!

And I'm guessing she's left handed. Although I wondered why the marker is so long and thought maybe she was putting together a smaller one with it. *shrugs* Anyway, very very captivating, I love the execution, the soft light- and the angle makes one feel in the child's position, which I'm assuming was intentional.

Something else: this really looks like from a Pixar animation!

Your pieces are very impressive, I'm sure you'll get one soon enough.
Take me for example - I only dreamt of having a DD, but never thought I could actually get one. And your pieces are of much higher quality than mine, soo... Just you wait!

Yup, she's left handed (you've won a cookie! ), The marker is so long because the camera is wide-angled and the hands are so small.

Nah, Pixar quality is unreachable for me yet.

And thank you very much!

Aww thanks! I'll definitely keep working! In any case, not for the DD, but for myself.
But higher quality? You're crazy, I love your work, you could be a children's book illustrator. Seriously, your stuff is great & innovative!

tchaikovsky2 In reply to Dragonfly22 [2010-01-07 12:42:08 +0000 UTC]

Wow, I dream of working as a children's book illustrator. Or a children's book writer.

Sure your pieces are higher quality, I mean, you work traditionally, and when you mess up, then you have one messed up piece; while I work digitally, and when I mess up, I press ctrl+z and try that last stroke again.

And c'mon, just look at your drawings - they look like photos!

Dragonfly22 In reply to tchaikovsky2 [2010-01-08 00:36:51 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I have skills reading people's aspirations xD
Anyway, you do have a point there about traditional vs digital; but that the medium determine's the artist's quality is another story!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tchaikovsky2 In reply to Dragonfly22 [2010-01-18 11:52:21 +0000 UTC]

And that exactly makes you better, cause you have more experience. If there's one thing that I do better than you, it's pressing ctrl+z!

Dragonfly22 In reply to tchaikovsky2 [2010-01-23 02:31:38 +0000 UTC]

Oh well, if you say so! But art is art, no? whatever the medium. Speaking of which, just wondering, are they featuring the Da Vinci exposition in your country?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tchaikovsky2 In reply to Dragonfly22 [2010-01-30 20:27:34 +0000 UTC]

Haha, actually you're right, art is art, no matter the medium. But I suck anyways.

I don't know about Da Vinci, I'm not interested in such things, honestly (I prefer digital art, mostly), though the guy was a real genius; I'm more interested in the scientific part of his work.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dragonfly22 In reply to tchaikovsky2 [2010-01-31 17:58:24 +0000 UTC]

I think I'll be so, too, since I'm in a scientifid field myself.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tchaikovsky2 In reply to Dragonfly22 [2010-01-31 22:10:35 +0000 UTC]

Science FTW!!!
And what field might that be, if I may ask?
I'm particularly interested in robotics (hmm, Da Vinci didn't pwn that one, didn't he XD ), bionics (poor Da Vinci!) and astronomy. Oh, and theoretic physics!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dragonfly22 In reply to tchaikovsky2 [2010-02-01 00:50:46 +0000 UTC]

Really?! Awesome I'm very interested in astronomy! Although right now I'm doing a BS in physics to later enter to astronomy, because my country doesn't have a degree on the latter. Right now I enrolled in a 'Cosmic evolution' course and I love it. Maybe when I have calculus approved, I'll enter into astrophysics. and wow bionics! >.<

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tchaikovsky2 In reply to Dragonfly22 [2010-02-01 12:49:42 +0000 UTC]

And may I ask what country are you from?
Well, good luck with all that!
Haha, bionics rule (hah, doesn't science in genereal? ), a relatively new field, only recently it stopped being a theory.
Just imagine what effects could it bring if we combined bionics with robotics - that's what I'm looking forward to the most. Right now we use pneumatics in robotics, that gives very satisfying and realistic results, but bionics would give almost "natural" results!

Dragonfly22 In reply to tchaikovsky2 [2010-02-02 15:40:35 +0000 UTC]

I'm Cuban, but I live in Puerto Rico since I was a child. The Caribbean anyway
(but I'm not a pirate ).

And yeah, bionics with robotics could be both fun and dangerous. Try and see if you can read this book, I highly recommend it "Godel, Escher and Bach: an Eternal Golden Braid". It's about AI and conscience and intelligence. Also, it talks about where the sense of self stems from and just scientific topics in general. Very very good! Oh and its author is Douglas Hofstadter.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tchaikovsky2 In reply to Dragonfly22 [2010-02-03 23:31:58 +0000 UTC]

But pirates are cool!

What could be dangerous if we combined those? Bionics just give physical structure and motor skills.
AI is still one tough badass thing to create for us, but there have been a couple of breakthroughs. Have you heard of Honda's Asimo? He's (yup, not IT - Asimo has something like a personality) probably the most advanced artificial lifeform we've ever created.
Or maybe you've heard of Ugobe's Pleo, a dinosaur robot? Allow me to call it a supertoy, Pleo is THE most advanced interactive toy ever to leave the production phase, he's so advanced, that he creates his own personality depending on the people he's raised by. Or Paro, a seal robot, aside from its cute looks, Paro behaves and spiritually interacts with people like a real animal.

These are just the few best ones I've remembered right now.

And thank you for that title, I'll try and keep an eye out for it.

Dragonfly22 In reply to tchaikovsky2 [2010-02-05 20:12:13 +0000 UTC]

Aye!

And wow, I actually had heard of neither. But it sounds like a baddass invention, indeed. The thing is, imagine when it starts to randomly pick its personality, not just depending on a "randomizer" tool or whatever, but depending on something it wasn't programmed for. Oh well, that's just me fantasizing... even when it makes random mistakes it was because it was programmed to., I guess that sort of takes the magic of it. But AI shouldn't mean conscience or life, right?

Oh god, you'll so enjoy that book. Everything I know, I got it from it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tchaikovsky2 In reply to Dragonfly22 [2010-02-14 16:22:38 +0000 UTC]

ROFL, you just said how Pleo actually works - he has real AI, no random junk.

No, AI is still but a program, it just learns and modifies itself in ways that the programmers let it modify itself. So no actual robot doom is gonna take place ever.
And remember, I know a lot about robotics in theory and quite much in practice, so I know what I'm saying.

Hmm, I wonder if I'll find it in Polish...

Dragonfly22 In reply to tchaikovsky2 [2010-02-17 23:11:31 +0000 UTC]

Pleo! I met a girl in my astronomy class that's doing biology and she asked me about it.
And yeah, man, nobody is questioning your knowledge

Speaking of all that, I'm reading Asimov, I love his short stories and recommend them. Hehe, just spreading the sci-fi love.

tchaikovsky2 In reply to Dragonfly22 [2010-02-17 23:50:44 +0000 UTC]

Dragonfly22 In reply to tchaikovsky2 [2010-02-18 21:18:38 +0000 UTC]

I'm reading Frankenstein and Nightfall. what I do mix up a lot is life and chess

Mixing up life and chess must be fun!

Gotta try that... Nah, the last time I've played chess was when I was eight. Or six. Now I play the Kaossilator, hah!

and haha, Kaossilator

tchaikovsky2 In reply to Dragonfly22 [2010-02-21 17:57:01 +0000 UTC]

You heard about the Kaossilator?
Honestly, loads of fun. One can really express themselves through music, a lot better than "offline" composing. Though the 8 beat/16 beat loops are a bit limited...

Personally, I don't know any other device that could give anyone more fun than this.

Dragonfly22 In reply to tchaikovsky2 [2010-02-24 01:31:56 +0000 UTC]

Well, I actually just googled it when you mentioned it!
And wow, it sounds like fun! If I didn't misread, it has a lot of intrument voices that you can use to record in a limit of two bars. But apparently you can get an extra two if you choose a tempo and set it to half of it... something. what do you really do with it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tchaikovsky2 In reply to Dragonfly22 [2010-02-24 16:13:05 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it is fun! One hundred programs to play with, 32 built-in scales, 50 gate arpeggiator patterns - it all gives almost endless possibilities!

...It's an instrument, sort of. Officially it's a musical sketchpad, but with all those smart functions it can be used to actually make some unique tunes. I got it, like, a month ago, and to this day, I've played about a hundred different tunes, it's just amazing.
