Description I've been feeling a little artistically wierd lately (and by that I mean I haven't been doing anything). So in order to kinda get back into drawing mode, I figured I'd do something easy and since I've never had a problem drawing miss Reka, I did a pic of her. Probably our most underdeveloped character, she's finally gotten to a point, design-wise, where I'm happy with her. This is not my typical coloring style as I tend to steer away from anything too cartoony but what the hell, I've just been screwing around anyways. I don't really love it or hate it, it's just something different.

I used a picture in *Tasastock 's inventory for a pose
reference. [link]
She's got some really cool stuff so check it out.

She looks lovely, I love how a pose and expression can say so much about a characters personality : )

Aww, thank you. She's been a hard character to figure out but I'm getting there.

that's a great pose you've chosen - and she has a very sultry face, even if you might not have aimed for it. The coloring too, is good - not overdone but not overdone. Looks great~

Thank you very much.
I wasn't really going for sultry, more relaxed and natural, but I might have gotten a little of that from the model photo I used. I think she has a pretty sultry face. Thanks again!

Gorgeous work. Pretty lady.

Can I ask what inks you use? I'm kinda reliant on my coloured pencils but like my work to be as smooth as possible so considered using inks but don't know where to start.

Thanks
xxxx

Thank you very much.

For this one I used the Micron brand pens (size 5 I think) for the thicker outter lines and copic multi-liner pens (size 0.05) for the thinner inner lines. I don't normally ink my stuff either so I'm a noob. as well. My friend ~Kihanna recommends Faber Castell and from what I've used of them (I don't own any) I'd recommend them too.

Good luck! Inking is a bitch.

Thanks for this. I have invested in some Faber-Castells and intend to attack them any day now.

Who knows what I will create :-s

Can I ask what programs you use to make your drawings? ^^

Just photoshop 7.0. Nothing fancy. I draw everything, scan it, print out a lighter version, ink that, scan it again and color it. That's about it.

Thank you very much. I usually shy away from this style but after I finished the pen-work, it pretty much begged to be colored this way. Oh, well.

I like the colours, soft soft!! how can you do soft things?.. for my is imposible x_x
Also the hair! really good work

TCShelton In reply to Maye1a [2009-04-29 05:40:23 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!

I usually wind up doing soft colors, even when I try to do something dark. I don't know why. Things just end up like that. *shrug*

Change is fun. I've been trying to figure out what sort of style I want to go with in my art. I think I've decided that I'm just gonna do whatever the hell I want, hehe.

I really like the inking! And the coloring is pretty, it's very soft. >.> I like soft LOL! YEAH REKA!

Her lips and hair are my favorite parts! I love the way you colored them. YEAH REKA!

Thank you, ma'am. I get confused when it comes to inking. I want my stuff to be professional looking and comic-like with good line work but at the same time I don't want it to be like ever other comic style. I want it be sorta different and painterly (hence a lot of my smudged lines). So it's trying to find that balance.

I think next time I'm gonna try and make the lines thinner, see how that works.
