Description I've been working a lot more heavily on my universe of alien species lately. I've sort of happened upon the name "Nascence" for it, and it's become sort of official. My original name for my Sci-Fi universe(s) was Ethereal, but now I associate it with a period it my life I want not to remember anymore.
I have so many stories and ideas and canon behind my several species, and the universal timeline is slowly coming together into the big intertwining web that is existence.

Two of the species I have been avoiding concepting are the raoli and the Kalanoids (raoli is not capitalized as human is not, Kalanoid is always capitalized...just part of the canon). The main reason I've avoided the raoli is because they haven't had much development on their society. They have a part in a plot idea, but culture-wise, they've been blank. Lately I've had some more inspiration and the decision to make them mammalian was made. I knew they kind of part they'd play in the scheme of things, so it has just been a matter of designing their appearance. As for the Kalanoids, well let's just say that insectoid aliens are very popular, and trying to design them without looking identical or ripped off from an already-created species is difficult. I've been through so many ideas, but none has seemed right, until I started working on just this character.

I realized that my only other mammal-like species happens to be humans -- actual mammals, so the raoli (like Ravioli without the "vi" -- I just realized that lol-- it's 3 syllables). I also was wanting them to give the essence of stability and wisdom, so I chose a shorter stature and thick limbs. They are coarse-haired and have a layer of subcutaneous fat, for their planet has a majority of tundra land. They are mostly meat-eaters though they do eat some lichens/mosses, hence the sharp tearing teeth. I drew these concepts as their more primitive form -- like drawing native indians or aborigines as the concept for humans -- so I will have to do a "current" concept or two if I end up going with this model.

Canon tidbit: Their planet is called Raoli as is their species, however anyone who is a "citizen" of Raoli is called a "Raolan." Raoli= planet, raoli= species, Raolan= resident

The top concept is of a particular character of the Kalanoid species. I have a lot of canon behind these guys, as they are one of the central aspects of the universe. They are the oldest species, predating the next sentient life by millions of years (think trilobite of the universe). They are principally an antagonist species, as they colonize planets and infest them, killing the resident lifeforms, but they are also very civilized, in their own way. Their society is a biological caste system, like an ant hill (hence the insect-esque appearance). Other people think of their society as simple and beastial, possibly due to the lack of advancement through social class, or perhaps due to their phonetically basic language, or their lack of embrace of technology, but really they are incredibly advanced. They achieved space travel long before other species existed.

This concept is of a "Sleeper Queen," in other words, a "Princess" in human terms, but one that doesn't realize yet she is the heir. Her name is Nukta'a Ot'Kalani, or rather it WILL be. For now it's just Nukta. Kalanoids are such an ancient species, it is not entirely known which planet they originated on. After years of conflict, the toridians traced them to what came to be accepted as the original location of their evolution. The toridians call it Dan-Kalanoid I’queom (dsahn-KAL-ih-no-eed ee-KWEEH-mm) or “Home of The Kalani People Prime,” and that is the name that has become universal. The Kalanoids and vyaktaji (another species) call it Ot’Kalani (OTT-kah-LAH-nee) or "Of The World."

Anyway, I'll stop there. Expect to see a lot more of concepts though, because I've gotten in pretty deep with world-building.

WONDERFUL! He steps on my hand most of the time now, and rarely tries to nip at me.

He has taken a liking to being on top of his cage, when he is out. Even though I am a good head and shoulders taller than that... I guess its cuz I am mobile, and his house is NOT.

Ahh, alien concept art! My favorite kind of concept art, by far!
I also really like the raoli for some reason, even though normally I'm not very keen on mammalian aliens... -shrug-
