Description
hello~i decided to make a tutorial on adding physics in mmd , since a lot of people ask me about this often.
(this works on .PMD only, not .PMX)
thank you! have nice day! β₯
comment and give me feedback if you want!

(What version are you using? I can't find the help button that you used instead has an information button that doesn't have the settings that you used here )Β

I'm using a chained collar for my model and each of the chain links are a separate material and for the most part it works, however, if my model is doing a lot of movement the chains seem to disconnect. Is there anyway to tighten up the physics or joints or whatever is causing this issue? DoΒ you think I need to lessen the mass of the chains? I have it set to one. Lol I'm just lost....please help if possible....

Hmm... it seems like they are not connected to the neck bone. Are you sure that the chain is attached to the neck bone (or wherever the collar is rigged to) by rigging at all? It must be physically rigged to stay in place.

Yeah everything's connected (triple checked) but everything just seems a bit loose. Do you think its because each link is a different material? Would combining the materials into one make the chain move more fluidly? Would linking a video help?

That's rather odd. I don't think that it would, but maybe changing the actual properties of the physic bodies would help. (i.e. size, radius, etc.) Size of the physics can affect how loose the object's movement will be.

I ended up combining all the individual links into one material and completely redid the physics (resized and rotated), joints, and bones and it seems to work now. I'm assuming its because each individual link was considered a separate material that caused the disconnecting links. Thanks for help! The info on the radius and size really helped!

When i add physics, it just wobbles like jello. please help.

Did you add any joints to it?
π: 0 β©: 1
HOISOKU In reply to Tehrainbowllama [2015-01-13 21:14:34 +0000 UTC]
yes and it still wobbles like jell-o

Okay, have you checked the size/settings of the physics for anything abnormal?

no. can i just give you the model? ok here

Sure!
I finally found the time to examine the problem, and sadly, I think that it lies within the bones. Since the pigtails are IK bones, I think that it makes the physics and bone movement go wonky. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how I can reverse this. I am yet to discover how to fix the issue.

HOISOKU In reply to Tehrainbowllama [2015-01-14 21:57:36 +0000 UTC]
so they have to be blue regular bones?
π: 0 β©: 1
Tehrainbowllama In reply to HOISOKU [2015-01-14 22:19:35 +0000 UTC]
I've done a little more investigating and I don't really think that it is the IK bones anymore. I'm so sorry about that misconception.
Instead, I think that it is a weighting issue of the bones, but not necessarily a bone-type issue.

So do i need to re rig the entire hair piece?
π: 0 β©: 1
Tehrainbowllama In reply to HOISOKU [2015-01-15 00:49:55 +0000 UTC]
Well, I'm not 100% certain that it is a rigging problem, but for now, that is my best bet.
So, I'd try just experimenting a bit with rigging the pigtails differently to see if it fixes the problem. It seems to look okay, but I can't really seem to pinpoint the problem.
This is unlike any other case I have examined before. First it appears to be bone structure, then rigging, and so on and so forth. ):

Well, i don't know how to rig ik and related stuff to that.

Would you like me to link you to some tutorials? Rigging IK bones isn't really much different than rigging "blue rotate" bones. (Creating them, however, is a different story.) Here are some: www.deviantart.com/art/MMD-Guiβ¦ www.deviantart.com/art/PMD-Xedβ¦ www.deviantart.com/art/Riggingβ¦

this was very helpful but do you need something in order to open enhanced model ? since I have MMD 9.10 Β but I can't click that because it's in gray do I need something ^^?Β

wow this is tricky ..but helpful..do you know how to replace physics? (I got a model with ALOT of physics and joints so my computer LAGGS)

Wow awesome tut >w<
But may I ask , how to fix the leg going through the model's skirt? :< Is that a physics problem?
π: 0 β©: 1
Tehrainbowllama In reply to StekinoMai [2014-03-22 21:30:20 +0000 UTC]
Have you tried making the leg physics bigger?
π: 0 β©: 1
StekinoMai In reply to Tehrainbowllama [2014-03-22 22:06:29 +0000 UTC]
Hmm , never tried that before xD
What happens if I make the leg physics bigger? Sorry I'm just curious (am still gonna do it btw OwO)
π: 0 β©: 1
Tehrainbowllama In reply to StekinoMai [2014-03-22 22:20:37 +0000 UTC]
The physics of the skirt would usually pass through the legs less, but the skirt may push outwards too much.

I use PMX editor version 0.1.3.8.

I didn't even know it was done in MMD . I thought it was done in PMD.
Thank you~

ceiliamckale1 [2013-09-11 03:46:01 +0000 UTC]
umm... shouldn't you adjust the size/shape of the physics so that they come reasonably close to fitting the model? if you don't there will be lots of collision issues and physics reacting when nothing came close to touching the part making them seem weird.

Tehrainbowllama In reply to ceiliamckale1 [2013-09-11 20:33:31 +0000 UTC]
yes, you should.
i did include that in step 5 of the tutorial.
