I use charcoal myself, but how do you make those exelent details with it?

Instead of using sticks of charcoal, I have these charcoal pencils of varying shades which I have to sharpen every 10 seconds to keep them nice and pointy for the details! I also have a white charcoal pencil to help blend the chalk in with the charcoal.
