Description OKAY does ANYONE REMEMBER THESE GUYS? Anyone at all? I can't really figure out exactly why I had the sudden urge to draw them again, since it's been SO LONG, but I did it nevertheless!

For those of you who've been with me for a LONG time, these guys probably need no introduction; but for everyone else, some explanation might be necessary.

Once upon a time, ~Arthulin and I had a tabletop RP that was cobbled together out of Spelljammer, D20 Modern, D20 Future, and 3.5E D&D rules. The setting was called Astral Arcana, and the end result was AWESOME FUN. It was set in the 24th century, with fantasy races and aliens and humans, spacefaring in open-decked vessels shaped like 18th-century frigates. It's a much larger universe than its characters, but the main character in our storyline we were working with was this little lady in the picture: Rian Ainsley, the Ruby Mockingbird, captain of the pirate ship Troll Havn. She's pictured here with her very unlikely beloved, Commodore Farael Bartimaeus of the Imperial Stellar Navy. How this Red Oni & Blue Oni action duo got together, then apart, then back together, is The Story. It's long and involved and complicated.

Lots of very, very old pictures of them in my gallery, including these: My style's done things since the last time I drew them together, which was last Halloween! I think those things were for the better, but it made them a little tricky to translate. Hopefully they're still recognizable.

I really love these characters "love" Draw them more! And they have so sad smiles. as they are saying goodbue to us. Am I wrong?

Oh nooo, goodness! Certainly not a goodbye picture, it's just been a while. Perhaps I've just been drawing angsty dead people too long? It was so much fun to draw them again, I really want to do new pics of Pirossa and Malachi too. TOO MUCH NEGLECT, hehe.

Weeee! They would come back, as I understood. I'm not saying I don't like Leland and Claris story, but Ruby and Farael are much more "alive" (and they are) For me. I miss them.
By the way, how do you develop your story? Do you write novels or you're drawing a comic? Sorry for stupid question.

Hehe, I totally understand! Other characters tend to hijack my train of thought pretty frequently, but I still love all the AA guys. :3

And as to how I develop- all my girl characters (and a couple of the guys) are actually put together for tabletop RPGs that I do with my fiance, ~Arthulin . He comes up with the core concepts for NPCs and then I draw and sort of... fill in the gaps in their backstories or personalities or whatever. He's GREAT at plot, but character design/development is my thing, so it's sort of like coming up with a collaborative story that we can play out in real time! The down side to it is that very little actually makes it into writing (unless you're counting little individual scenes or vignettes), but it's a great way to tell stories (I find)!

He looks so darn handsome!

Lovely outfits too - as always when you draw these two - and great work on the roundness of Rian's legs. Just... great work, basically. I really like this one even if I can't pinpoint what makes it so special in my eyes

It's amazing to see how your style has been slightly tweaked in the past year, didn't even notice until looking at the past pictures. Absolutely love it though!

nkbnkbngk SO AWESOME. I missed these two so muuuuch. As I said, i think Rian looks completely amazing, that grin of hers is just totally infectious and REAL. Farael still looks like him, but again he looks more...mm, solid, somehow, like I can picture him as a real person. You can tell how your style has shifted subtly because he and Leland have very obviously different face and body shapes, but I suspect six or so months ago they would have been very similar. So that's EXCELLENT. And I saw somewhere in the comments a mention of Pirossa, aaah. Any chance of a new Malachi?

I am so excited to see this pop up on my list of artwork that I have to view! This is so beautiful and the coloring is breathtaking! I think you really did an amazing job on this image, the details are just fantastic! Rian's hair looks sooooooooo fantastic! I just love the way it pillows around her and forms. I think that is one of my favorite parts of this image. And Rian's clothing too, but she really has an amazing since of style . I think you really did a beautiful job on this! I cannot wait to see more!

Seeing Farael and Rian again pretty much made my evening! They are definitely recognizable - I'd recognize Farael's gorgeous coat anywhere.

Awww yeah, thank you so much! I loooove nice wrists. I have a thing for hands in general. Although I have no idea whether I can draw them as sexily as I find good sexy hands to be in real life, I can certainly tell you I enjoy some nice hands, whether they're male or female. :3

OMG, of course! I saw the print request and I actually thought about not doing it, since a lot of times when I get print requests nobody ever actually does buy them and I'm afraid I'm coming off really full of myself like "YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO BUY THIS PRINT!" But yay, I hope you do get it or other stuff on your wishlist sometime. :3 I hear good things about the dA prints, one of my friends who bought one of mine told me the quality was great.

OMG YES I KNOW. I was telling Kanny that I totally have a Pirossa-related drawing idea. And I may in fact actually do it. Which I'm sure you would not be unhappy about

And yeah, no, I totally know what you mean about the difference! I was telling ~solfieri that I think working with different face types over the last year has helped a LOT. Not the sort of thing you notice all at once, but it's like a slow buildup, I think. Either way, I'm not complaining! I'm so glad you're happy to see them again (although I of course knew you'd be cool with it, you seem very fond of them ). Thank you siiiis!!

It has, just a little... hopefully not SO much that they no longer look like themselves! Sad fact: I had to pull up his character page to remember certain details of his uniform. It HAS been a long time. I'm very glad he looks happy! Although I am partial to drawing him with Sadface Syndrome, I do think he's had SOME happy pictures? I hope? Admittedly, I do have a VERY hard time making my guys look happy. See also: Leland. All things considered, he's actually quite happy especially towards the end, but I never EVER draw him that way! I'm such a bad person. Maybe I just love Sadface too much.

It really has! The last one I did of them was the Halloween pic with the Princess Bride costumes. New characters distract me like whoa. BUT THAT'S OKAY, I love the new ones too... like I said to Kanny down there, sometimes you need to move on to come back. Very glad you like it!

OMG, I know, it's been SO LONG... But you know, sometimes you need to move on to come back later. :3 In my world, putting something on the back burner NEVER means it really "goes away", it just sort of... bides its time. I'm so glad you're happy to see them again, though! I had a Pirossa-related idea lately and I kind of want to draw that too, tehe.
