Alrighty! This is under the category of "Tutorials" because it's the end product of a drawing I used a line weight tutorial for. SO PLEASE DON'T JUST LOOK AT THE PICTURE BUT ALSO CHECK OUT MY TUTORIAL!!! --> [link]I just hate making giant JPEG tutorials all on DA, so that's why you get a link instead
If you have not read my other tutorials and are interested, here are the links:

Thanks a lot for this.Indeed, this is how a tutorial should be,explaining why and how,not just a slideshow of process and "I do"s.

I'm a student of Professor Mia Goodwin (AKA Michelle Paluzzi ) at the Savannah College of Art and Design (if any of that means anything in particular to you), who just directed me to this tutorial. It was very interesting, informative, and even a little funny! Good job, and thanks! You have the envy of yet another Sequential Art student.

Thanks so much for this tutorial. All the other tutorials on inking that I've read were really vague on line weight, but this one really cleared things up for me.
P.S.: What kinds of pens do you use (like which size)?

Thanks!! I appreciate it
I use Copic Multiliners, their SP series (they're called SP because they have interchangeable nibs and ink cartridges but besides that they're the same as the non-SP), and I pretty much use the 0.1 nib for everything. I think most people use more sizes, but I kinda paint/sketch my lines with lots of little strokes that make up one big stroke, so I get plenty of line weight with one size.
Happy inking!

You have such talent, and to be able to right it down in a tutorial is quite an accomplishment ^^ I can't even find the words for such a thing.
Makes us appreciate more what you go through!

wait, there are really only this small amount of comments for this? Wierd.
I have been so lax because of my laziness in commenting on the 100 something devs in my inbox. But anyway this is good.

I'm inking a comic page of my own at the moment, and I'm glad I remembered I bookmarked this page. I got a lot out of your hair tutorial as well, both this and the other were very informative. Thanks for taking the time to do it.

Your inking is incredibly professional! You explained everything very well and even put in tiny details most people would leave out. Very nice!
But one question. Are you using the computer to do this, or real pen?

Lol pretty much yeah, if it's a 600 dpi pic and I zoom in at 100% to ink. Although starting in chapter 3 of the book I'm working on I've started to ink by hand because I get waaaaay too meticulous on the computer. That, and I've found it actually looks better and more lifelike by hand anyway! Best of both worlds *learned how to ink on the computer first*
Anyway, thanks!

Interesting to make the "Organic" process feel very "methodical" ^_^ So, do you normally think that in depth while MAKING the pictures, or have you gone back, and tried to figure out the reasons for why you do certain things? It is quite interesting to see the thoughts and ideas broken down into packets of techniques.
These will be good subliminal cues to keep in my head as I work on improving my linework even more (I admit I'm probably a bit more base in my style of linework than what you presented here), so thanks for the "back of the mind" inspiration I'm sure it'll help in ways I'm not even conscience of, lol.

Tentopet In reply to SAB-CA [2005-10-04 16:27:00 +0000 UTC]
I think like CRAZY when I draw, which I think everyone should. I analyze everything. I don't like it that a lot of people feel that art is lost when it's overanalyzed. Art and creativity aren't magical! And I think I've improved a lot faster than most people because drawing is a very conscious process for me.
But I think the reason I can explain it is that I'm a terribly right-brained person who learned in school how to translate right-brained stuff into left-brained wording and vice versa so I could actually pass my classes. Aaaaand I have a teaching degree! So those things help
Anyway, yes, I hope this gives you some ideas!

Well, after completing another KoF Fanart (Featuring King), I kept your tutorial ideas in mind Funny, this is the first one I played with the lines so much, that they refused to scan well under "black and white" conditions, lol.
I think you also motivated me to use some hatching, which I haven't in this series of pictures (Totaling 3), till now So thanks for the subliminal inspiration, yet again
Now if I just tone'd it, I could just rename it the "inspired by Tento!" piece, lol.
