Please be careful when doing this tutorial. I will not be held responsible for people that can't wield a pair of snips. If you cur yourself while doing this tutorial, don't come moaning to me. You're a big kid now.
The wire: cost about £5.50
The snips: cost about £4.00
The vice: cost about £12.00
I do not expect you all to rush out and buy these things- I've used the vice so many times now, as well as the snips. They are both well used, so don't waste your money unless you're sure you'll use it again!

Looks like we're using exactly the same type of vise. Except mine's more beaten and scorched.

Well, it can work either way, I guess. All barbed wire is new one day did you oxidise yours? or actually scorch it?

No, mine just has marks from the hacksaw and the soldering tool.

You know, I never even thought to make barbed wire, or even use it in any of my pictures. Now that I've delved into the wonderful world of macabre though, I think I should!
Thank you for this

I am certainly going to give this a shot right after I perfect working with things like nails and screws (which I don't have to make 👍: 0 ⏩: 1
TerraRhapsody In reply to pullingcandy [2009-03-20 13:50:59 +0000 UTC]
screws are quite heavy i find- nails are easier to work with! you should try getting soem liquid latex or soemthing to hold them onto stuff- it's really good for that- i've used it a lot

pullingcandy In reply to TerraRhapsody [2009-03-20 13:54:34 +0000 UTC]
Screws are heavy, yes. I don't think anything else will work for the idea I have in mind though - but latex is a fantastic idea, I didn't even think of it. I was just going to take my changes with frustrating myself using tape. I'm not sure how that would have worked out, probably not at all like I wanted it too (chuckle).
Nails were easy to work with, yes, except for holding too many in your mouth at one time.

yeah- i can imagine! tape is really a bitch for holding things in place. skin hates tape!

well, it is in my case because it's cut at an angle, but it's never sharp enough to dig in when it is just wrapped around your skin

Pffft, you say that as if I'm a bloody barbed-wire connisseur[sp?]. They do, and it's not like you feature them or anything...it's a small intricacy in the holistic view...rie? :] And 'sides...you think they make 'em perfectly to keep people out of places...you'd think they'd work regardless of shape.

TerraRhapsody In reply to Cyril-Helnwein [2008-09-05 10:49:16 +0000 UTC]
it wasn't as bad as i thought, actually. i did some experiments a while back to make some barbed wire from some thick wire i had lying around and did ok. I then kept on doing it with the bits of wire i had left. the wire was harder to use than this stuff, so it was a breathe of fresh air to use this stuff

Cool thats great, might try this in minature with jewlery wire and a suffering tomato. The blood mix looks good too. I do re-enactment and the recipe we use has coffee grounds in it so when it dries it goes crusty.
