Description Necks! Those tubes that connect the head to the rest of the body. How useful they can be =w= And if you are a lizard several meters high with a biting power capable of splitting a log in half like a toothpick, even more so XD
Here's the tutorial on dragon necks, starting with the most basic types. It is important to take into consideration the type of head and body that our neck is going to join, that is why the proportion and a little anatomical logic. I explain:
For a large and heavy head we will need a suitable neck, robust, muscular, and not excessively long so that the head is easier to hold. If you want a practical example of this simple physical law, take a bottle of water and hold it away from your body, you will see how it seems to weigh more than if you hold it close to your center of gravity. The same thing happens with the head of a dragon: the heavier and larger, the shorter and more muscular the neck. For this reason, sometimes we will see necks that keep the head in line with the body, that is, without the characteristic S shape that raises it above the shoulders. These dragons tend to look bulky, slower, like some kind of crawling dinosaur or crocodile.
(But then should I limit my imagination to the laws of physics and the logic of reality? NO! EVER! DO NOT DO IT! If you want to make a big headed dragon with a puny neck go ahead! It sure looks great! >w<)
For lighter heads attached to more agile bodies we can use longer and thinner necks, which imply speed and movement; more flexible and fibrous and serpentine in appearance.
And for heads that are not so big or so light? Well, for an intermediate head, an intermediate neck (lol who would have thought XD). It is thick, but also long.
A couple of important details that should generally appear on necks are:
1. The throat. Drawing it as an iguana-like dewlap will help give the dragon a more reptilian look. Consider that the skin of the throat begins just under the chin. It is not mandatory to draw it, but it looks good ^^
2. The musculature of the neck. No matter how thin the neck is, it must be taken into account that it must support a very powerful head and give it mobility. Obviously all muscles are important, but in that area a lot of powerful muscle insertions accumulate.
Aaaaand our tutorial for today is here. I hope you like it and enjoy it, and as you already know, if you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask
