Description
Part of my "Evolution of The Camera" series....
The Sliding Box Camera was amongst the earliest functional camera designs, allowing the photographer to shoot daguerrotypes from a relatively simple and compact (by the standards of the day) platform. Focusing was achieved by sliding a portion of the camera's body in and out - hence the name.
Little more than a pine box with a place for film and a hole for a lens, the Sliding Box is the humble ancestor of all our modern photography widgets.
