NOTES

The design of the Gladiator Armor is based on a certain War Within character whose actual name is revealed only in the final pages of Sod: Trannis .

The origins of the Gladiator are chronicled in SoD: Shockwave/Soundwave .

The Gladiator makes more than one appearance in SoD: Jetfire/Grimlock , trying to lure Grimlock into joining the Decepticon cause.

Subject: Gladiator Armor

It is commonly believed that a Cybertronian can acquire his alt mode only from an external source: by scanning another object or by receiving a detailed specification file that defines the transformation protocol.
This idea is so rooted in our “common sense” that no one has even dared to question it in the last thousand of Vorns, possibly with the exception of Jhiaxus.

The concept of a self-defining Protoform was drawn from his studies: a heavy-dense fluid mass of nanomachines that, instead of searching for a structure order from outside, obtains it from within.
The inner source, obviously, can only be a Spark Core.

In the first stages of development, this process can advance only in small steps. Hence, the need for a secure container that can host and protect the namomachine batch, as the macromolecular structures rearrange themselves following the input provided by the Spark Core.
The Spark Core must come from an already existing mechanoid and, not being able to remain indefinitely inside the namomachines, must be movable back to his original body at will.
The perfect hosting solution has presented itself in the form of the Gladiator Armor: this shell is both an incubating chamber for the nanomachines (keeping them active even when the Spark Core is not available) and a substitute framework body for the Spark Core (which even inside the Protoform would not be separated from the external world).

The Gladiator Armor possesses great bodily strength, heavy armored plated and strong offensive capabilities. Under its protective covering, the Protoform will be able to develop according to the Spark Core's innate genetic material: the resulting form that emerges from the Armor, similar to a butterfly from a cocoon, would be by all means the perfect and ideal embodiment for that specific Spark Core.
