Description
It had been a few years since Toph Beifong and her friends stopped the Fire Lord's twisted plan to conquer the world. And since the end of the Hundred Year War, the world has been at relative peace.
One day, Katara approached Toph at her Metalbending Academy, and the two caught each other up on recent events. But Toph and Katara's friendly banter soon gave way to a back-and-forth argument about how their respective skills and abilities have improved since the end of the war. Eventually, the two stubborn friends challenged each other to a duel.
Toph's students gathered outside in the academy courtyard, as the two prodigal benders squared off in an intense battle of water and earth. Katara admittedly was out of her element, since Toph had the home advantage as well as her natural attunement with the earth itself. But Katara soon noticed how her water attacks reduced most of the ground to a field of muddy puddles. Toph sensed the change in the landscape as well, and they both tried knocking each other off their feet to gain the advantage. But right as Toph charged toward Katara, the latter flicked her hands and shifted a large puddle beneath Toph's feet. The timing was perfect as Toph toppled right into a large fountain with a loud splash. Toph surged to her feet to climb out of the fountain, but she soon felt herself being pinned in a large pillar of ice that restrained her entire body. Toph strained and wriggled in her icy prison, but she could find no slack in her predicament.
Some of Toph's students snickered at their sifu's situation, while Katara marched triumphantly up to her trapped opponent.
"Looks like I win."
"Oh, haha, you got me. You won't be so smug once I bust outta here and bury you ten feet under," Toph growled heatedly.
"Good luck with that. Considering the temperature outside right now, you might be here a while," Katara noted.
Toph groaned as she threw her head back. "C'mon, Katara. Can't you cut an old friend a little slack?"
Katara pursed her lips. "Maybe I would've if you hadn't slimed my hair last week."
"Hey, that was funny and you know it!" Toph snapped back.
Katara rolled her eyes and pulled something out of her pocket. "I think I'll be getting a bigger laugh out of this."
"Wait, what're you evemmphh! Whhtthh thrmphh phhfmggh?!" Toph could feel her mouth being sealed by a thick cloth rag that was tied tightly behind her head. She grumbled a few curses behind her gagged lips as she thrashed in her icy bindings.
Katara chuckled. "You can't tell, but that gag I slipped on you has your family crest. I can't think of anything more ironic than this."
"Fhghh yhmph!" Toph grumbled.
"You really should watch the language. You are teaching kids, after all."
"That's okay, Miss Katara. She cusses a lot during lessons," one of Toph's students piped up.
Katara rolled her eyes. "Of course she does. Come on, kids. Something tells me Sifu Toph needs some time to cool off after a busy week."
Toph's students chuckled at Katara's pun while she indignantly struggled and squirmed to free herself from her frozen captivity, but to no avail. She narrowed her eyes in the direction where Katara's footsteps faded into her academy.
