Askari was the younger twin brother of Abijah, first ruler of the Pridelands. He was never interested in politics, so he left that to his more even-tempered older brother. However, Askari found his purpose when he defended the king against a group of rogue lions who were looking to seize the throne. Askari had always been a good fighter ever since he was a cub, so Abijah knew his brother would make a good defender of the Pridelands. So Askari rallied four of the best lions he knew -- The Bravest, The Strongest, The Fastest, and The Keenest of Sight -- to protect the Pridelands, and he called them the Lion Guard.
