Chuma was born in the Grasslands, not too far from the Pridelands. He often got teased a lot for looking so similar to the evil king Scar, but he had many friends, including his best friend Malka, to cheer him up and stick up for him. He grew up and met a pretty lioness named Jioni, and the two became mates, settling not too far from Chuma's home pride. Jioni soon became pregnant, and near the end of her pregnancy they met a strange lioness named Zira. She seemed oddly fascinated with their little cub, especially hoping it would be a boy. Zira's wish came true and Chuma and Jioni did in fact have a boy, whom they named Ujazo. And on one tragic night, Zira came and murdered Chuma and Jioni, sparing their newborn cub and taking him with her, renaming him Kovu and setting him up for a destiny not imagined by either of his biological parents.
