Description
3MB to load... Be Patient!Since some of you already know, two weeks ago my 2D Animation course has started. I'll study it for three years. Last week we received a light table, and we have created a lot of small animations practicing the art of animation. I'll write more at the journal soon if you like.
Yesterday I could not wait to play around with it some more. It's my very first hand drawn animation of a character (One second loop, 21 Frames). It looks a bit stiff and pretty rough, but it was a lot of fun to do! It was really long ago when I was that motivated to create something. I may try to ink it digitally... Reference was a walking cycle video from youtube.
EDIT: Preloader Added
Enjoy

What program do you use to animate the drawings?

Your use of perspective is pretty impressive. The torso movement is pretty stiff. You could easily improve that by moving the shoulders up and down slightly like you did with the head. Great Draftsmanship, too!

Reminds me of the walking of old cartoon shows. It has that old "classic" charm to it.

you should get paper with line that don't show up in scanners it would help keep things level.

Very nice! I've only done scarce animation, and i know it's time consuming, but the result is so fun to watch!

looks great, only critique is comparatively the right arm is uppercutting while the left is swinging, sides that looks awesome!

Rough? This is incredibly clean for animation >>
It's alright, lots of first year students have clean drawings for their rough animation.. as to the stiffness, I have some critique that will help!
The biggest part of why it's stiff is because there's no up and down on his head. It stays in the same spot, when in fact walks have an up and down bounce. Second, he has no 'down' or 'up' positions. Whenever his foot lands, the knee is straight and doesn't bend.
Likewise with the head, the shoulders and hips aren't bouncing up and down, nor moving forward and back. Both of these happen in a regular walk. Remember, exaggeration is everything in animation. If it happens in real life, making it happen twice as strong in your animation.
Some great help would be Richard Williams' "Animator's Survival Kit" and some books by Preston Blaire. They have very detailed help on everything animation
All in all, good start!

Yeah it's a pretty core book for animators O: It's actually a run-down of his master class that he toured and taught to already working pros, so it's -slightly- more advanced than something we beginners need, but still extremely helpful :3

Excellent start! There needs to be a lot more squash and stretch, right now the character weighs nothing as he walks.. but other than that, great work

I like it, and I dunno f it was intentional or not but as he moves the belly scales give the illusion of him taking a breath. Great job there
