Description A gift/fan art for the only other person I've encountered on this site that lives in the same US State as me.

I really liked his design for an 0-8-0 Hunslet, so it has now been officially appropriated.

Woo, second drawing of a locomotive with plate frames. This actually took a few tries to get right, I'm happy with the final result.

And now for some excerpts from a series of articles in Trains Magazine; "(...) On the subject of recent acquisitions, the system took delivery of a Hunslet-built 0-8-0 for suitability trials in the previous month. The locomotive was acquired under a lease agreement which would allow the system to make minor modifications for increased suitability, but would allow a return free of charge in the event the engine does not satisfy."

"The Hunslet locomotive, per the FRA's and the system's requirements, was equipped with American 'Buckeye' automatic knuckle couplers, Westinghouse air brakes, and LED lighting at the UK factory. When the engine arrived at the Leadore Motive Power Depot, further modifications were made, which included the addition of horizontal bar pilots front and rear, the fitment for oil firing, and Cab Signalling with Automatic Train Safety Stop System. Following the additions, the Hunslet was test-fired and ran around the MPD property, and ran as expected."

"(...) While the locomotive did operate, concerns were raised by maintenance staff over the mechanical arrangements of the locomotive, citing the Stephenson Valve gear between the frames and the unequalized suspension arrangement. Issues were also voiced relating to the use of plain bronze bearings, and the potential hotboxes to be experienced on the mainline network."

"Operational trials have yielded interesting results (...) The Hunslet bears a lighter axle loading compared to the system's home-grown Eight-coupled tender engines, and features 36 inch drivers compared to the 48 inch drivers on the home-builts. The Hunslet, while slightly lower in tractive effort, is lighter, so it may find use on lighter parts of the system. (...) The engine was unable to exceed 43 mph, but could manage the regular load experienced on the main line."

"The Hunslet, after trials, has proven unsuitable for use on the system's primary roster. However, it's lighter axle-loading and greater tractive effort has led to trials on lighter subsidiary lines, specifically the lines leading into the foothills and valleys where wood farms and mining happens. On these lines, the lighter Hunslet has proven more suitable than the Home-made engines, and the Hunslet has also proven much more powerful than the small 0-4-2 engines which were being worked double-headed."

"It was announced that the system has recently secured complete purchase and ownership of the Hunslet 0-8-0 that they've been trialling for the last three months. They have made further modifications to the locomotive, such as a taller bunker for greater oil capacity, an exhaust system akin to that of the Kylpor exhaust fitted to engines modified according to L.D. Porta's advice in the 1960's for Hunslet Austerity locomotives. The Hunslet engine is shown in this condition. Not shown in the accompanying drawing are the air pump and reservoir, turbo generator for the lights, and reversing gear. The locomotive will be used by the subsidiary company Idaho Wood to move material from their tree farms in the northeastern parts of the Sawtooth Range."

Alrighty, hope you don't mind me appropriating a design of yours, and writing a little story for it.
