Description
Woooooo finally another tutorial! This time for boot covers! I've had a lot of people ask me how to make boot covers so I figured this was a good tutorial to write!I would like to start by saying, I did not come up with this method for making boot covers... I merely use this method. I donβt know who came up with it, I just know it wasn't me. I do however find it a super quick and simple way to get clean crisp boot covers with not much difficulty, so I figured I would share it!
All that being said I did write this whole thing out and sketch out all of those wonderful **cough cough** horrible **cough** little drawings ^,~
If you wish to repost this somewhere please ask me first.
I have a lot more tutorials planned for the next little while (including some on makeup and wigs) So hopefully I will be able to get those done soon!
Anyways, if you guys have any questions about the tutorial or anything I mention in it feel free to ask! I am always happy to help out as much as I can!
Also guys I will have a reference picture shortly, I just don't know where the charger is for my camera right now, and my battery is dead dead dead ^^β

Does the fabric on the sole not tear as you walk on it?

I have never had any of mine tear, or even really show that much wear (though they will get really dirty). But that is a possibility if you walk on anything sharp or really rough.
Some times if I am using really slippery fabric I will use the Dr Scholl's slip resistant pads on the bottoms , so you could certainly use those to enforce the boot covers too.

Thank you for the tutorial!
If I were to use a slightly non-stretchy fabric, would that
make any differences?
Thanks again!

I am terribly sorry for the delay in response to this.
This actually likely won't work well with fabric without a lot of stretch. So much of the making process and the finished look relies on the stretch of the fabric.

What kind of stitch do you use on this fabric,zig-zag?

The-Cosplay-Scion In reply to yaoiisanamazingting [2011-05-23 05:15:01 +0000 UTC]
Yes I always use a zig-zag stitch! Though if your machine has a straight stretch stitch that will work too! ^^

I love this tut! I just wish you had a finished example to see how well it really works - my big concern is how it would look when one has wide, fat feet >.>;;;

Hey, Becky showed me this because I'm working on a costume from Resident Evil 5... Only problem is that the whole costume needs to be made out of vinyl. Will this work with vinyl, because it's not that stretchy...
π: 0 β©: 1
The-Cosplay-Scion In reply to Rock-Lees-Lotus [2011-02-19 03:02:58 +0000 UTC]
If it's not overly stretchy it may not work. It needs to have at least a slight stretch in both directions. to do a non stretch boot cover it really needs to be properly tailored with a zipper or closure up the side of the boot.

Rock-Lees-Lotus In reply to The-Cosplay-Scion [2011-02-19 03:43:12 +0000 UTC]
Well, I was already planning on installing a zipper just to make sure the pants fit properly anyways. Vinyl does have some stretch but not very much. As long as I'm really careful with my measurements, should it still work?
Thanks for the feedback!

The-Cosplay-Scion In reply to Rock-Lees-Lotus [2011-02-22 02:37:51 +0000 UTC]
In theory yes. though, you may not be able to just trace the shoe.. you are likely going to need to add a bit just to make sure it can actually fully got around the shoe.. Also I am really not sure how making the heel will work, you are going to need to do that very carefully. Since that step heavily relies on the stretch of the fabric..
It should work, but I can make no definite promises that it will.. This method really is designed for a two way stretch fabric like a spandex or high stretch vinyl

Okay, thanks Lee! This is a big help. I understand I'm going to have more difficulty with a less stretchy fabric, but hopefully it'll still work out.

I bet you have to step lightly in these or go skidding across tiled floors. Do you add a 'no skid pad' on yours so they last longer or keeps you from falling on your bum?

The-Cosplay-Scion In reply to NotaSouthernGirl [2011-02-11 21:48:32 +0000 UTC]
I don't add no skid pads myself.. and haven't really had issues yet, the actually aren't really as slippy as you would think. Though I did mean to add a little part about the option of adding them at the end there
