That’s the original Japanese term for them, meaning Artificial Human. I kept it untranslated in the project to prevent nitpicking over which term is best to describe them all as a group since some of them are fully robotic androids, some are mostly human cyborgs, etc.

It's chain of sources.
If the character exists in the manga, I do multiple comparisons to try and determine where they average out at against specific characters (usually Goku if he's around).
The anime or other supplemental material can be used if the manga doesn't have any good references or the character is anime exclusive.
If there still aren't any good references, I may turn to games where the characters appear, and very rarely action figures if I'm desperate.

A few characters do have official heights and I try to use them if they work, but sometimes the characters just need to be drawn how they are drawn and not at they height they are said to be. The best examples are Goten, Trunks and Chaozu, who are all stated to be over 4 feet tall officially, but barely come up to other character's knees in most art.

Also, this is my own personal project (notice the  Dragon Ball Redux - DBR labels tossed around the description and title), and is not entirely true to the original franchise. So sometimes I just make the characters whatever height I like them at.
