Description After the rain had stopped, I looked out the backdoor and saw this little Weevil trudging along.
I noticed the little bump on it's back and I thought it was a bit of mud.
Then I looked through the camera...

LOL! I guess Spidey was tired and needed a ride home.

If the spider thought that the weevil could be potential prey, it's eyes were a lot bigger than it's stomach. lol It's a great picture.

I think that's a money spider, and their fangs aren't big enough to penetrate the Weevil's armor anyway.
It would be like a rattlesnake biting a tank.

A money spider? I've never heard of such a thing. Why do they call it that?

The-Dude-L-Bug In reply to KissofCrimson [2012-09-25 19:43:11 +0000 UTC]

It's an old variation of the "itchy palm foretells of fortune" story...
In olden times, those found with the spiders on their clothes or in their hair (the spiders are small and will use the "ballooning" method of transport) were thought to be lucky and coming into money.

There is some basis for the assumed advantage. Back then, clothing was forever beset with moths. These spiders will feed on the larva and the adult moths.
The story was expanded some to include other factors such as the spiders spinning sheet type webs. The legend incorporated this as an offering to help repair the damage done by moths.

Ah, I see. I had never heard of that before, it's an interesting story. It would be nice if it were true...

Sexy weevil, well spotted and captured. You don't come across something like this every day.

Now that is a cool shot What a moment! That's what I love about macro photography: sometimes you find surprises looking through the viewfinder, sometimes later in your pictures.

Super capture Jim!

I'll bet that little spider was thinking.. If I could only find a way through this guy's armor, I'd eat like a king for a week"

Yeah, it was probably thinking "If only...I'd be set for life."

Shades of "the Scorpion and the Frog' or what.

It's so easy to tell that was a North American story.
It never would have worked in Africa...
Mr. Scorpion: "Excuse me Mr Frog, I was wonderin.."
Mr. African BullFrog: (Homer Simpson's voice) "Mmmmmmmmmmmm Scorpion" GULP!
That frog species is freakin huge and will eat ANYTHING that get close to them - including mice, young birds, large spiders, scorpions and giant centipedes...
and any other frog that's even one molecule smaller.

I really don't understand how some of you guys are able to find moments like this and can react so quickly with a camera... Do you guys carry a camera EVERYWHERE you go?

This is an amazing photo by the way.

Thank you.

LOL! I know it must seem like it,
but no, my camera is NOT a surgically implanted accessory.
This was just an instance of good luck.

I do try to keep one of my cameras close by for life's little surprises, but I can't tell ya how often I'm frustrated when I stumble across wonderful things like this and my gear is hundreds of feet away.

I missed an absolutely gorgeous sunset the other day while trapped in traffic.
(I refuse to use my cellphone; it's camera is almost an insult to photography.)
