Jeremiah Joyce had simple desires. He wished, as so many do, to be famous. Not for its own sake he would hasten to add, but to be famous for an achievement. He wished to bring to the world the fires of Prometheus, to open mortal eyes to the splendour of unknown truths. He wished to be worshipped for his genius. He was a scientist surfing the cusp of madness, searching for the breakthrough of his career. When he found it however, he tipped over that cusp. Joyce’s funding was steadily declining in a direct parallel of his grasp on sanity. As he became more desperate to prove himself, he became less able to do so. In the end, funding was removed and his laboratory closed to him. Left with nothing but intellect and a grudge, this volatile combination pushed to him to find his very limits. These limits, it transpired, involved kidnapping, human experimentation and torture. In the end these experiments lead to him making himself a new man. A man of power and gifting. He had found his fame through infamy. He had found his purpose. Of course, with this came a need to prove himself in a new way. He had to prove his genius and his might. His first tussle with the man who would be his arch-nemesis, one Max Proton, lead to incarceration. But, you see, they had locked up a man who is able to shrink and pass through atoms. The police were not able to hold Micron for long.
