Don't look at me and try to see me
The way they all think they do.
My face is not who I am.
I could say, look deep into these eyes
And you will find my heart, my soul
But that wouldn't be true.
You wouldn't see me for who I am.

You could listen to me, talking to you
Listen to every syllable of each word,
Hearing the meaning, understanding my mind
Yet my voice can only be an echo
Of the real me.

But when I write
All that changes, setting me free
Ink is never ignorant
Paper doesn't lie.

The shape of every letter
And between the lines
You just might see the true me.

Like my face,
Every word stares up at you,
Imploring to be understood.
You can't read my expression half as well.

Don't just look at me -
Read me
See me for what I am.
No longer boring, annoying...
Maybe almost as weird!
But writing makes me feel
Appreciated
As being more than
What's on the outside.
