Fluttershy's latent elemental power awakens, and with it, Spring. Pack it in, ponies. Looks like Winter Wrap-up is already taken care of.My favorite season by far. Winter just feels like sleepwalking by comparison.
Watercolor on 9x12 140 lb. Strathmore watercolor paper. Finished: 2/25/16.Β

Well, since that Twilight is a princess now, the library is gone and... the quality of the show and music improved since season 1, it's quite obvious it's becoming a bit awkward to watch it again.
Well, not for everyone, though.

I'm tryin' to wrap my brain around how you got the glowing green aura around Fluttershy's magic as well as the diffusion and haze in the sun's rays. You spun watercolor gold here, sir!

It's all in the first wash. I started out with a wet into wet layer of yellow everywhere the sun hits and blue-green around the magic with all the whites masked off. The rest was simple rendering, being careful to leave enough of the blue under layer. Typical of the nature of watercolor, most of the work was in the planning.

Wow! This looks amazing! I know every artist has its own tricks... but I still can't believe this was done with watercolor!

Thank you very much! If you think this is impressive you should look up the work of true masters of watercolor like Joseph Zbukvic, Alvaro Castagnet, David Curtis, Roland Roycraft, or my all-time favorite artist, Alan Lee. Every one of them makes me look like an amateur.

You're truly a wizard of art! But you could add more black (make more dark) to her eye pupils.

That extra glow in her eyes is from the magic coursing through her (notice the blue tinge to her eyelashes). In every other piece I've done I've given them dark pupils.

Oh I don't live in a desert. I was just born there. But it was in the Spring.
Maybe it's just the increase of vitamin D exposure, but I feel more alive during the warmer seasons. It's like I can feed off the energy of the sun.
