Description
Fluttershy's latent elemental power awakens, and with it, Spring. Pack it in, ponies. Looks like Winter Wrap-up is already taken care of.My favorite season by far. Winter just feels like sleepwalking by comparison.
Watercolor on 9x12 140 lb. Strathmore watercolor paper. Finished: 2/25/16.Β

So, did you use any pencil lines to help guide yourself, or did you do this in one take?

I am a wizard. Not a god. So yes, I used pencil lines. Actually, what you see here is my second attempt at this picture. In the first attempt the colors were going a bit too orange in the light and blue in the shadows, so it looked more like an Autumn sunset than a Spring sunrise.Β

Okay, last question. How did you make the pencils lines not/barely visible in the final product?

The pencil I used is a 6H, which, due to its hard lead, doesn't leave very dark lines. I also painted in thick watercolor outlines on Fluttershy and the animals.

So Fluttershy is Equestria's Spring Maiden, huh? Awesome. This is a very beautiful piece of art.

A lot of the fandom seems to see her that way, or at least associate her with Spring. I can't think of any pony better suited to the roll.

Thanks! I knew the whole piece depended on that glow, so I was very careful not to mess it up.

Did you leave the paper white of go over with white paint?

With watercolor it's nearly impossible to go lighter than the white of the paper, so I used masking fluid to preserve the brightest areas.
