Description
This is my most recent portrait, a Luftwaffe officer commissioned by the officer's son. It's watercolour, 12" by 19" I only had a photo without all the medals and stuff, and in black and white at that, so it took a little research to get everything right. He was very pleased. ^_^The Luftwaffe were the "regular army" flying corps for the Germans during World War II - I only mention this to note that they weren't a political branch and therefore weren't affiliated with the National Socialist Party. They'd have had to fight regardless of who was in charge.
Kind of an unusual painting for me, since my relatives spent their war years sabotaging German installations in Norway during World War II.

About 12,000 miles. Oh! Age-wise! I think I have her beat by about 27 years, so I can definitely understand her thinking I'm old.

Bite you tongue - my darling daughter only just turned 18. I'd better not be a grandpa anytime soon!

Haha, ok fine. But you'd better get to installing one of these in front of your house:

Not a bad idea, even if we didn't have a teenage daughter.

That reminds me of a sermon I heard the other day (don't ask, it's Mark Driscoll, lol). He told a story about a friend of his who has a daughter in high school, and one day both he and his wife had to work late and when he got home, all the lights were off in the house (at 7 o'clock, lol) and when he turned them on, his daughter was sitting there with a boy and they were half dressed! So, trying to maintain his composure (while internally thinking of places to hide the body), he asked her what was going on, and she said, "It's the weirdest thing, we were just sitting here talking, and all our clothes fell off! We're victims....the belts are defective."

Great job!! It came out awesome! Great job, as always! It must have been hard to do with a black and white picture only.

Thanks! ^_^ Yeah, I had to make sure I got all the colours right on all the little doo-dads. It's harder than it sounds because there just wasn't a lot of colour photography back in those days...

Thanks, David! I was a little nervous about posting a German officer, but I was pretty happy about how this one came out. This fellow fought in North Africa with Rommel; I learned a lot about the war talking to the son. Very interesting stuff.

when you think of it, DA is built up of all Nationalities so it could be quite easy to put the wrong thing up here, but a soldier of any country is or was only doing what their country asked of them

You're right! That's one reason I try not to do anything too political - there's always the chance that you'd offend somebody.

Very true indeed. If someone came in and asked me to paint, say, DaBull04 with horns growing out of his head and fangs, yeah, I'd do it. Got to think of the dough.
Actually, I think I'd rather enjoy it... so maybe not the best example.
