Description Welcome to part two of my Friendship is Magic comic "Without Magic".

After hearing that her faithful student is using Magic to solve everyday problems, Princess Celestia has transformed Twilight Sparkle into an Earth Pony.

I've taken on board some of the criticism of the last page (Mostly from readers who raised the whole "Earth Pony" V Hornless Unicorn issue), and I've modified my script a bit for the next couple of pages because of it. Mostly, it's made it longer. So please be patient as I've got more frame to draw that I originally scripted for.

Spike was supposed to be more encouraging, and was supposed to reassure Twilight about what Princess Celestia wanted, but I had to cut the scene in order to get everything ready by the end of the day as it was taking too long to do everything. I may put the scene into another page later on.

Anything that isn't directly attributed to somebody is either based on an image from the showadvertizing material for the show, or is scratch drawn (Some things are a combination of the two). I didn't use General Zoi's Pony Creator for any of this (yay).

The background is Library Upper Floors (Twilight's Bedroom) by DaringDashie (daringdashie.deviantart.com/ar… ).

Twilight Sparkle in Frame 5 and 6 was inspired by Comic - Dragon Trouble by DaringDashie (daringdashie.deviantart.com/ar… ), though it's not a direct copy. Twilight's Expressions were heavily guided by Faces of Twilight Sparkle (Vectors by Kdogfour (kdogfour.deviantart.com/art/Fa… ).

The food on the table was inspired by this video (www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWrc56… ) by ToucanLDM. As I needed something to get me started.

Part 1: perfectblue97.deviantart.com/a…
Part 3: perfectblue97.deviantart.com/a… (New Version )
Part 4: perfectblue97.deviantart.com/a…
Part 5: perfectblue97.deviantart.com/a…
Part 6: perfectblue97.deviantart.com/a…
Part 7: perfectblue97.deviantart.com/a…

Spike is a combination of Spike is not Amused by tamalesyatole (tamalesyatole.deviantart.com/a… ). I used the legs, body, ears and spines, but redid the face, mouth and arms to suit my scenes better. I also simplified the image a little to fit in better my simplified version of Twilight Sparkle.

Spike is the voice of reason. He's telling Twilight that she's not thinking clearly.

No, he is being a dick. He is right that she is perfectly capable of doing things with her hooves, but I cannot imagine him acting so cold about it when his de facto sister is upset and traumatized.

It's in character for the show.

Remember "Smile and Waive".

No I disagree. It is not at all in character for the show.

Spike is often used to state things that are obvious, but which other pones either can't or won't say.

The whole Smile and Waive scene is a great example of this.

He's the voice of reason.

You are conflating stating the obvious with being a dick. Spike is indeed the voice of reason at times in the show, but then I never complained about that. Even at his most snarky in the show, he's never outright cruel in the manner which you portray him here.

Twilight's giving up on performing an easy task that she's done 100 times before without needing magic, the problem is in her head, not on it.

He's being a snapping her out of it.

In the show Spike has repeatedly made fun of other character's predicaments. Bridal Gossip being the most obvious example.

If Spike is being cruel in my comic, he's still being a better friend than he was during that incident.

The crux of this page is that Lilly and Daisy don't consider any of that stuff to be "magic". Which is why they are acting like that.

TheBadFaerie In reply to cat-in-the-web [2014-06-29 12:10:20 +0000 UTC]

I don't think that Twilight would ever do something like that. It would be like going up to Celestia and complaining that an assignment was too tough?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

cat-in-the-web In reply to TheBadFaerie [2014-06-30 17:04:26 +0000 UTC]

yeah i guess she would really never do that. twilight's to eager to complete every single test she gets XD but it still seems quite harsh to take the cutie mark too. i mean they live in a world where your life is determined by your cutie mark. taking that away from a near adult pony must throw you in a quite serious crisis.

fotland42 In reply to ??? [2014-06-23 20:45:46 +0000 UTC]

Grow a pair, Twilight. At least try to make the sandwich before you start crying about how impossible it is.

It's not like this is permanent, anyway. 'Tia isn't going to take away your horn forever as a learning experience. All you have to do is learn something, and you'll get your horn back. You're good at learning things.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

TheBadFaerie In reply to fotland42 [2014-06-29 12:08:43 +0000 UTC]

That's what Spike's trying to say.

Twilight does more complicated things than that every day, but she's started doubting herself.

Detah-Ramet In reply to fotland42 [2014-06-27 14:44:05 +0000 UTC]

Well, considering the fact that she is in the same position as master pianist who had their hands almost completely made unusable.

I'd like to point out to you that Celestia decided to take away the horn, the conduit of magical energy, from a pony who has saved the entirety of Equestria on several occasion, who's element of harmony that she represents, IS MAGIC

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

fotland42 In reply to Detah-Ramet [2014-06-27 21:57:38 +0000 UTC]

It's a master pianist with his hands tied behind his back. Yes, it's rather inconvenient. Yes, it's bothersome to have to wait for somebody to choose to untie you. Yes, it's not exactly polite to tie somebody's hands behind their back on a whim. But it's not the end of the world, and whining about it is not contributing anything to learning a lesson to convince 'Tia to give Twilight use of her hands back . . . metaphorically speaking.

Even when you are a victim, sitting around crying is often not a productive or mature response.

Detah-Ramet In reply to fotland42 [2014-06-27 22:58:21 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, but that doesn't invalidate the psychological trauma that most victims of limb loss undergo.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

fotland42 In reply to Detah-Ramet [2014-06-29 07:22:29 +0000 UTC]

She knows she's going to get it back.

At least I hope she does. It would be unfortunate if she thinks so little of her dear mentor that she would think 'Tia would permanently turn her into an earth pony on a whim. That would demonstrate rather a lack of trust, which really would not befit their relationship at all.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Detah-Ramet In reply to fotland42 [2014-06-29 22:03:04 +0000 UTC]

She flipped her shit and legitimately thought that Celly would send her back to basic-magic school for missing one of her letters. Do you really think that it would be much a stretch for her to believe that Celestia would refuse to give her back her horn arbitrarily? Hell, she arbitrarily took it away, it wouldn't exactly be out of character for Celestia in this depiction to keep it gone.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

fotland42 In reply to Detah-Ramet [2014-07-01 06:20:37 +0000 UTC]

She's obsessed with punctuality. She needed some way to justify her instinctive feeling it would be the end of the world if she didn't send in a report by sunset. Because she's never turned in an assignment late.

Whereas she has had to go without magic temporarily on a few occasions, and the world completely failed to end then.

Which kind of makes the point that 'Tia's justification for this learning experience is misguided, but that's a different discussion.

Yeah let's be honest, a lot of ponies do some impossible shit with their hooves like grabbing stuff. With Twilight, even though she use her hooves, her horn was like another arm to her, and Celestia just had to cut off that arm to her loyal student. Yeah that'll get you points for Princess of the Year...

I don't blame Twilight. She's lost more than an extension of her bod, but herself as a person. The show has made it clear that a cutie mark is tied to someone's destiny and identity. And her identity was heavily tied with her being a unicorn. Frankly, this could probably pass as a form of torture.
