Description

So have you figured out what anime the Sugar Rush kids are cosplaying? If you answered Cells at Work, you get a gold star! This anime focuses on the daily lives of anthropomorphized human body cells, most prominently the cells of your immune and circulatory system. Every day, these workers fulfill their duties by performing a very specific task like delivering oxygen, repairing wounds in the tissue, and fighting deadly pathogens that try to invade the body. Everything that happens in each episode is not only accurate and smack on point, but 100% relatable due to the fact that these are living cells in your own body protecting you from foreign invaders and other stresses that you may encounter every day such as heat stress and the flu. So while fiction, they are very much fact.

I highly recommend checking out this show. You don’t even have to be a science dude like me to enjoy it. It can easily be for anyone who feeds on action, clever writing, bloodbaths, and lots of unintentional shipping. I chose each racer to play a certain cell for very specific reasons, whether that be resemblance in character design or a personality match. And above all else, it’s just fun to give these characters a complete wardrobe change.

Gloyd: B Cell . He wields a powerful blaster that shoots antibodies: specialized Y-shaped proteins that cling and identify viruses and pathogens. He’s a cheeky cell who’s proud of his work and wants everyone to know it.

Jubileena: Eosinophil . A type of white blood cell in the immune system found in very low numbers, she’s tasked with the bigger baddies like parasites. Though shy and timid on the outside, as soon as a threat strikes the body, the eosinophil charges full force to eradicate it!

Adorabeezle: Mast Cell . This immune cell is responsible for releasing histamine and other chemicals necessary for immune responses. She does not combat on the frontline, rather monitors and dispatches histamine from the safety of her office. She does everything by the book and hates being told otherwise. Don’t get her mad, you might find yourself at the business end of her fiery fury.

Crumbelina: Macrophage . Though she is thoroughly sweet, she is also one of the most powerful killers in the human body. A total badass behind her giant weapons, macrophages use brutal force to finish off any foreign invaders, then tidy up the mess afterwards.

Minty: Natural Killer Cell . This independent cell packs the most impressive moves and hunting skills of all the immune cells. She roams the body freely, riding on her heightened senses to seek out disguised criminals of the deadliest levels, notably cancer cells. NK Cell is a tough and aggressive action girl, but enjoys a good laugh at the expense of Killer T Cell.

Swizzle: Killer T Cell . A member of a professional team of assassins responsible for eliminating any germ or virus that dares to enter the body. He stops at nothing and never passes the chance to flex his muscles or show off what his fists can really do.

Vanellope: Red Blood Cell . The very means of a body’s survival depends on cells that deliver oxygen from the lungs to every area of the body and then transport carbon dioxide back to the lungs where more oxygen is picked up to begin the circulation all over again. Without their hard work, the entire body would ground to a fatal halt.

Rancis: White Blood Cell/Neutrophil . The most abundant type of all white blood cells in the immune system, neutrophils patrol the bloodstream and are the first responders on the scene when any pathogen enters the body thanks to their ability to detect when an invader is nearby. Despite their job as tireless killing machines and their very serious demeanor, they do find the occasional time to break for tea.

Candlehead: Platelet . These adorable repair cells are responsible for closing scrapes and wounds that can serve as passages for pesky germs to enter. They also enjoy piggy-back rides from the older cells.
