Description So this is page 7 off 1st issue of Street Fighter II Turbo (which is out now, BUY IT!)

I'm just posting it up as an example of how I'm a moron.
See, (A) was my first colour attempt, which was both fun and challenging to colour (light setting etc, lots of playing around). Re-read the script and realized that I had coloured it showing the wrong time of day (I'm a moron)
So yeah, There went a few hours work down the drain, fortunatly the flats were layed out and it was all about re-lighting.
(B) is how It was supposed to look like and how it was printed.

Thought I'd share this.

I just bought the comic and this scene was my least favorite and let me tell you why. This is just a critique, don't get pissed but this scene didn't look real at all. The walls and the desk are empty. Their should at least be a laptop and a picture of his family, it should also include though other case files on the desk and maybe a drink. The scene was really plain and boring. I'd like to see you punch it up and blow me out of my seat. I think this comic, and YOU, have a lot more to offer.

mate i totally felt the same about the scene.
I was told later later, that I should've added more shit in the room, but then I directed them to the reference of the the office room from one of the previous issues (it was a really bare room)
So me, who likes to follow as much continuity from the previous series as I can, did such. Only being infomed later that I probably should've added more shit (Which now I have been)

I posted a pic, hope you don't mind. I copied this pic into photoshop and painted over it what the office should probably look like. I added a bunch of stuff on his desk, i gave credit to you but if you want me to take it down let me know.

I'm buying it today, I promise. I prefer your original lighting. The light creeping through the blind looks great. And the long shadows on the desk do too.

Awesome piece, are you or any of the other udon guys going to give tutorials on the way you draw? Not just coloring?

Also, you said the comic is out now, but the only place I've seen it says it won't be out until the 28th of October.

Its interesting how the mood changes heavily from just the type of day. Looking at your art is the equivalent of taking an art class.

Confucious Jay say, "thou not moron for if he take what he thinks is mistake and turn it into practice." Dude, chalk it up to simple practice of lighting, which I so desperately need!!!

I. Love. This. It's so cool with the difference in colours and light sources 'n' stuff :3. I never really thought much about that, but of course there's a difference in the light even if you're inside. It's really striking! Thanks for sharing
It's funny, I actually don't think I would have had this great urge to fave it instantly, if both versions hadn't been there. It's the difference in effects I really like. You really know what you're doing. Err... that came out wrong. I guess what I'm trying to say is that this shows a great deal of talent. *goes to check rest of your gallery*

See, this is one of the reasons I'm on DA. To get aware of stuff like this and remember it when I'm drawing, learning from all the professionals. Thank you so much for that little eye-opener. I'll make sure and remember this. Super special awesome inspiring!

What's up with the room? It looks skewed, not one horizontal or vertical line. Was that intentional for story telling? The tiles in the Chun-Li panel look also weird, not like they share the perspective of her.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

theCHAMBA In reply to derBene [2008-10-17 17:05:43 +0000 UTC]

ya knwo what's funny and odd.
when I actually follow the graphics rule of technical perspective, most things tend to look 'unproper' in accordance to what we see.
But when I myself skew and tweak around with perspecting following the basis of the perspective rule, I usually work it so that it would work it within a fish eye lense which is closer to what we see.

so to answer your question, yes it was inetentional.
the use of technical perspective really helped convey the office atmosphere I was after. Nothing organic and flowy.

There is nice work on both panels! I would still prefer A, but they are both incredible... On the third panel down her eye looks a little disproportionate but overall this is FANTASTIC! KEEP IT UP! (I'm still jealous of your mad skills!!!!)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

theCHAMBA In reply to Northerner757 [2008-10-17 17:07:28 +0000 UTC]

disproportionate in accordance to?

It's the lack of 'white shine' that might give off a certain appearance.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Northerner757 In reply to theCHAMBA [2008-10-17 17:32:44 +0000 UTC]

In accordance to the other eye, the left one looks unnaturally smaller to me but then again... that's probably just me... and yes the lack of white shine could be giving it that illusion. It's definetly a better job than I could do (that's for sure...) I didn't mean any harm by it... thought I would just point it out is all. [link]
