I remember the first time I saw Cell absorb a civilian. It kind of freaked me out at the time. Regardless, Cell was a pretty cool bad guy.

Most definitely. They definitely played him out like one at the beginning of the Cell saga. Not sure about in the manga though.

Well, there is Full Metal Alchemist, and though I do like Brotherhood more. You gotta give the writers for that series credit, they went off in their own direction and pulled it off.

Though you're right, sticking closer to home when it comes to shows like Dragonball Z has shown to be beneficial.

Which is an oddity when it comes to manga and anime really. I've notice something circular about manga and anime though. Eventually one becomes the other. It really rare, well in my experience, to find a form of media that takes a manga and tells it's own story with it like in America with shows like Batman the Animated Series, Superman, Justice League, Spiderman, X-men, and such.
