Description Here are the completed legs from my most recent digitigrade costume leg build.

The materials used to create these range from PVC Pipes, Wood, Metal Signs, parts of Window Frames, Hot Glue, Duct Tape, Masking Tape, Painters Tape, Electrical Tape, Nuts, Bolts, Washers, Wood Screws to Wire (12 gauge or 14 I don’t remember), Wash Towels, Yarn and Fake Fur.

Sorry, but I don’t have pictures of these without fur (I seem to have forgotten to take photos), but the detailed concept design/plan can be found here: [link] which shows a pretty good representation of what’s inside and their basic construction.

This is my most comfortable, light, and realistic build yet. Each leg weighing around 3 pounds. I weigh around 135 pounds and around 5ft 8inchs tall and as you can see I have quite a thin build. I haven’t measured myself while wearing the legs but I’m guessing they add a little over 1ft to my base height.

The legs look a bit odd without the padding on the back of the upper leg (Haven’t gotten there yet). I might remove a little from the foot length in the future as well.

I need to make legs like this ( only not wolf ) for a cosplay for an old show i used to watch, found some old fans an were doing a group cosplay. I see cosplay legs like this a lot but they're never thin enough to match the character, these are the only ones i can fined that are not big or bulky. your link for the video wont work.  how did you make this? can you walk ok in them?  vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/ge… i'm cosplaying the pink haired character in the back, do you think i can do something similar to this for her.

Ooh these look great perfect for realism or to scare people on a dark night in the woods.

Do they make wolf tracks?

These are fantastic! They're much, much more slender and 'real'-looking than most digitigrade stilt ideas I've seen floating around. What do you use to work with the materials - metal, wood and such?

(I would love a hooved version )

How compfortable are you walking in those? Can you run in them?

TheCostumeArchive In reply to jmillart [2011-05-08 21:21:45 +0000 UTC]

They are very comfortable even without all the padding added yet just have padding within the foot cup and at the ankle joints so far. Also, since they are so light you can barley tell that you’re wearing them while walking which was one of my many goals; it’s basically like wearing a pair of boots in weight.

Currently, I don’t trust the durability of the materials being used enough to run or jumping in them, so I can’t say. If these were made from more durable material types which is indeed possible, running and jumping is totally within the realm of possibility of their designs. There are weak spots in the current build; the bolt encasement which attaches the leg braces to the foot build (Had to remove a lot from the PVC/Wood build to fit the piece within) I added some aluminum plates to either side of the area for strength, but aluminum is a pretty malleable metal so it tends to stretch under enough pressure, Ill probably replace them with steel in the future. I’m also not sure of the strength of the 12-14 gauge wire used as the tendon I think it would have to be upped to take the stress while running or jumping. Last of all, the wood toes could crack or wear down; replacing them with aluminum copies would fix this problem.

In the end walking OK, running and jumping try at your own risk. Keep in mind that if these did indeed break in anyway you wouldn’t get seriously injured unless you hit something as you fell, toppled of a ledge or something else unlikely. I haven’t gotten hurt in anyway when the prototypes broke or while wearing the current legs.
