i went to NYSSMA in kingston last weekend and got my first hundreds

i play percussion and also sing. my 100s were on vocal and jazz vibraphone

music is the greatest. jazz vibraphone? sweet! i love jazz, i play jazz on saxophone, flute, and voice (though i didnt do anything jazzy for nyssma this year.)
nyssma went well last night, actually, and i am quite happy. 96 on piccolo, and 100s on both flute and voice.

CONGRATS! xD that is so funny because i also got a 96 on my classical marimba solo i did that weekend. i supress my anger over that because of the two hundreds (;
yeah, jazz is so lovely. i feel like people don't take to it because its difficult to understand and people are naturally afraid of change from the usual (usual being simple and easy to comprehend music, lol) but how lucky we are to be able to appreciate it!

haha yea i wasnt angry about the 96 really at all. 296 out of 300 is fine! we are amazing, clearly.
jazz is fantastic. improv is still hard for me, but i respect people who excel at it so much. i take jazz lessons every week and its just so amazing. jazz is just so emotional. so is classical. i love them both.

x) improv conquers me. its like a whole new world! i love how some people just pick up there instrument and start playing things that "sound right". i've never been good at playing by ear. how are your jazz lessons? what kind of things do you study?
