Description
Finished carnotaurus! I really enjoyed creating the colors and markings. The body is done in markers and colored pencil, background is done in acrylic paint and Photoshop. I'm still learning paleo reconstruction, so feedback is always appreciated. My site: rushelle.com/

I absolutely loved this work.
The attention to detail with muscle, fat, and soft tissue is what sets this apart from other works; it actually looks like it could have been a real, live animal: a formidable Cretaceous predator.
Too many times I have seen theropods and other dinosaurs "shrink-wrapped" with pronounced fenestra. This work is perfectly set apart from this norm, and accomplishes its goal fluidly and beautifully. Not to mention it has an interesting colour scheme, and the proportions seem to be very accurate.
I would love to see more paleoart from you! Maybe some thyreophorans, or more theropods!

1. Came here from Trey the Explainer, or as I like to call it, DeviantArt Paleoart Showcase.
2. Reminds me of Dinosaur King's Majungasaurus, which is also based on a milk snake.

Probably my favorite carno reconstruction ever. I love it when people make it genuinely freakish and weird because it's such a specialized animal and very different from most other theropods... This looks wonderful and feels very real. Looks Super dangerous too. The colors are a big "holy shit I might wanna hide" factor in this one. I love how spiky,Β contrasty and muscular this carno is.Β In a good way.
I was gonna mention that more loose skin in the thigh and hips area would look more natural but then I noticed that this piece has been around for a year already so... Idk how much have you developed since then so not gonna critique this. 8DΒ

Yay, Carnotaurus! (with his itty bitty arms.) My sesond favourite dino.
I love that you made him striped; he just looks more awesome, (the colour scheme reminds me of a coturnix quail no idea why.)

Amazing work! I love the bulk on the tail, like fat storage, and everything you did with the head. In my opinion however, the body and thighs are too think and bulky

hey i forgot carnotaurus (and ceratosaurus?) had those spikes all over his back, guess that had to be a part of indominus rex

I got nothin' in terms of paleo reconstruction, but I really do love the patterns, colors, and gobs of little spiky bits. Β This critter looks brilliant with its skin on. Β

Awesome work, I love how thick he looks and yet still looks like he can sprint aat a gd speed.. I very much like the markings and colors. Β A snake comes to mind but I can't think of the name.

Thanks! I indeed use a Bothrops asper for inspiration on the colors and markings, with a little mix of a Argentine black and white tegu.

At any rate, It's much better than shrinkwrapping, like so many other people do. Again, nice work.

I notice that too, artist don't consider the fat, soft tissue, muscles, etc. when reconstructing dinosaurs. I try my best to avoid making my dinosaurs look starved, lol.

AndrewTRX In reply to TheDragonofDoom [2015-06-20 06:48:41 +0000 UTC]
Yes, absolutely!
I find that very many people fail to recognize that exact point, and proceed to depict theropods (and other dinosaurs) as shrinkwrapped, starving looking animals with extremely pronounced fenestra. Right here you have probably reconstructed the most realistic looking Carnotaurus I have seen.
