Okay, let's see if I got this in hand. Fluttershy would have been a load, Rarity would have been more interested in spreading her fashion sense than friendship, Twilight would have fixed things too easily, and Applejack would have been a non-presence. Did I get that right?

Poor AJ... she's seriously underutilized. It seriously isn't that hard to imagine her doing something not apple-related. When are they going to give her a more grown-up storyline? When can we address her parents? Kids are a lot tougher than we give them credit for. She could center better around more mature subject matter and excel, if they let her.

Hard worker, family, musical talent, Ponyville's best athlete etc etc.
The fandom just likes to focus on one thing per character.
