Description Based upon the Discovery screens. Cluttered, makes no sense, but heck, we have it in Trek since 1966

Something about using Eurostile as the system typeface gives it a cool feel, like another famous USS Discovery from the 1960s, especially with the 3-letter codes.

If only it would randomly show a blue screen with NAV or SYS on it.

No,no,no,Β  don't tell me you all you guys are reproducing the fugly RMQ designs now?
Pardon me while I go and cry,......but at least they don't have bumps and pipes running all over the outside.

I like Discovery and it's designs. If you don't, it's your own thing, but please don't rub it under the noses of the fans of the show.

thejimmyjames In reply to thefirstfleet [2017-12-20 07:25:31 +0000 UTC]

Amen. I like how Discovery's designs pull mid-century concepts like using geometric basics in. Working with taught me how those 50s and 60s "Doo-Wop" architecture concepts work with Star Trek designs. John Eaves' designs for the new show do well with connecting to the vintage ideas while presenting a universe that will be accepted by a modern audience.

I'd love to see your take on the Shepard-class (USS Gagarin, USS Ride) which after the Crossfield-class is my favorite of the new Trek ships from the show.

The Ackerman does not have rotatring hull segments. She doesn't have a spore drive either.

Β I would suggest changing the Arlert, Kirstein, and Springer to NCC-1552, NCC-1618, and NCC-1626. With the USS Schneider and USS Panzer getting the registries of NCC-1627 and NCC-1629, if we're to use anime series as a naming convention for this class. Doing so would avoid registry conflicts with the Valley Forge, Kearsarge, Al Burak, and Belleau Wood classes. I'm currently looking for registry numbers that are either unused in fandom, or contradict names already used in canon or major fan designs, but the late 1400 range so far hasn't yielded any results, and you worked faster than I could.

Β At the very least, rather than interpreting this as the Jaegar as having to compete with other classes for hull contracts, instead, this could be interpreted as the Jaegar having a long production run, if that is preferable, just that the ones listed are far more noteworthy.

Β Edit: NCC-1479 is vacant. Masao made the mistake of using the name Los Angeles, a name also used by a Loknar and Chicago class. Classes I consider to be semi-canon.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

thefirstfleet In reply to JESzasz [2017-10-13 13:45:22 +0000 UTC]

I consider this as separate canon/fanon.

JESzasz In reply to thefirstfleet [2017-10-13 14:19:31 +0000 UTC]

Β Still would be nice if you instead integrated, so they could occupy the same canon/fanon, which is what I try to do.

Actually it reminds me of Axanar computer displays like the one with showing the capabilities of the Ares in battle against the D-6. You know i'm starting to think that CBS took ideas from Axanar and sued Axanar Productions so that they could take all the credit. Β

See, to me it looks more like a TNG touch screen than anything TOS, and yes that is an issue since Disco is set before TOS!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

thefirstfleet In reply to paws4thot [2017-10-12 14:32:19 +0000 UTC]

When you think of it, by the time Discovery takes place, the Enterprise is 10 years old. In 10 years, so many things might have changed, especially on a highly experimental ship.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

paws4thot In reply to thefirstfleet [2017-10-12 14:40:27 +0000 UTC]

thefirstfleet In reply to paws4thot [2017-10-12 15:39:17 +0000 UTC]

No, it's set in 2265, 10 years before Kirk's Five-Year Mission

paws4thot In reply to thefirstfleet [2017-10-16 10:12:56 +0000 UTC]

thefirstfleet In reply to kenham1 [2017-10-13 13:47:58 +0000 UTC]

I consider all series as separate canons now. TNG soft-rebooted TOS. DS9 soft-rebooted many key aspects of TNG (Cardassians, Trill, etc.). VOY was a separate entity of its own, removed from the traditional settings. ENT soft-rebooted everything. The Abramsverse hard-rebooted everything. DSC does another soft reboot. I don't care anymore, I just enjoy the show as long as it's interesting.

Mikasa Ackerman?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

thefirstfleet In reply to thejimmyjames [2017-10-12 07:13:25 +0000 UTC]

Yupp. Mikasa was named after a real Japanese battleship (it still exists today as a museum ship, can probably turn into a steampunk mech or something), so I did the opposite and named my ship after "a legendary warrior woman of early 21st century Earth mythology"

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

thejimmyjames [2017-10-11 21:55:05 +0000 UTC]

Good, you don't have the "saucer shot" bit from Discovery's screens. Clearly those are meant to be part of the spore drive, and shouldn't exist on a ship without the spore drive. But without it, how will she ever reach Speirein 1!?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

thefirstfleet In reply to thejimmyjames [2017-10-12 07:14:13 +0000 UTC]

She does not have spore drive. Lorca stated in ep. 4 that after the destruction of the USS Glenn, only the Discovery has spore drive.
