I believe the aquashuttle only appeared in the animated series (my introduction to Star Trek when I was 7)

AWESOME JOB!!!Β Β

I remember seeing the Aquashuttle in theΒ episodeΒ " The Ambergris Element".Β Β It would be have come handy in the movie Star Trek Into Darkness instead of submerging the entire USS Enterprise in water on theΒ planet Nibiru. Β Β

They... flew the Enterprise into an ocean...?
Somewhere in Infinity, Gene Roddenberry is shouting, "WTF?" along with the rest of us.

gisleres In reply to Looking4Work [2017-02-08 15:31:40 +0000 UTC]

The USS Voyager did it first in the prime universe, setting the precedent a starship can also become a submersible.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

Mr-Pink-Rose In reply to gisleres [2017-03-21 23:33:17 +0000 UTC]

Actually, I saw the Delta Flyer do it in the episode "Thirty Days".

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

Looking4Work In reply to gisleres [2017-02-09 02:29:24 +0000 UTC]

It still makes no sense to me.
Unless I'm a scriptwriter who's run out of ideas, and needs something with a cool special effects sequence.
Then sure, a starship can land on the ground, swim underwater, and launch itself into space.Β (I think Gerry Anderson set the precedent in "Thunderbirds" or "Supercar" or "UFO.")

I've seen too many Star Trek episodes with ships struggling to escape a planet's gravity from high orbit, to suddenly accept those engines capable of making escape velocity from a dead stop on a planet's surface, or being capable of of functioning under water.

Yes they did submerge theΒ Enterprise into an ocean in the movie Star Trek Into Darkness.Β Β Β I also agree, I believe somewhere in Infinity, Gene Roddenberry is shouting, "WTF!!!" along with the rest of us when JJ Abrams created the new .Alternate reality Β for Star Trek and destroyed the planet Vulcan and its inhabitants. Β Β I do not believe his idea for Star Trek was to destroy his creation and forΒ JJ Abrams to replace it with his new version of the Star Trek universe.Β Β

Looking4Work In reply to bjmaxvin67 [2016-06-29 03:16:55 +0000 UTC]

Abrams must have started with the idea, "Let's do something they'd never do before!" And so he set about screwing up everything he could. (I haven't seen either film based on what I've read of the stories.)

Simon Pegg wrote the next one, and I remember reading he's a s-f nerd at heart, so maybe this one will be tolerable. Maybe...

That's why I couldn't find it.
Pretty versitile little craft, you'd think the writers would've used it a little more.Β  I'm still waiting for the day when Star Trek crews actually find a planet of merfolk.Β  Ariel-like merfolk.
