Description
"Captain's log, Earthdate 21 June, 2272. It's been a long refit time, but well deserved. The Fleet finally decided that the thorough refit of the Polaris cannot be delayed anymore. Then again, coming home with half the optimal nacelle count and hull breaches the size of a small house probably was a good point in convincing them. I have to admit, Big Chief's crew did an outstanding job, the Polaris never looked better. I have to admit, I'll miss the old Strelka. She's on her way to Tzenketh, the Emperor Straha personally requested her to be exhibited in a museum. The trial runs of our new shuttles are promising, however. But the more things change, the more remain the same. The Polaris is ready to sail out once again. Still, for the first time, I feel a small bit of regret. I'll have to leave my family behind. My new-born daughter will not see her father for months. But duty calls, and I am bound to it. The unknown calls once again..."Models by me

Because she never was refitted. Real ships don't need that, it's for pussies

Refitting is for when you are so awesome that you can not be dismissed, but you are seasoned enough that you need to be updated

Great classic pic. Makes me miss the fan art era of classic Star Trek.

looking good as always. I like the reflections. now if you'd blur them just a little and added some specularity to the hull materials, that'd make it look just right as some modernized TOS should
keep it up.

But the TOS ships had no Aztecs

That is the point. It is their lack of typical metalic properties that makes them look like the plastic the studio models were made from. There sure is a reason why they changed it from TMP on

Yeah, I wanted the ships to have a "brand new" feel to them.

Always enjoy seeing pictures of starships in dry dock
Is the Polaris going to get the TMP nacelles, since the refit took place in 2272?

No, the Polaris was never refitted to either Phase II or TMP tech. At least externally. She remained in the TOS Pilot configuration (not even getting the whirly Bussards) throughout her service.

Ah, kept in her classic configuration. I just read your comment about her becoming a muesum ship, which I like

Actually, Suliko was the person who made old grumpy David a better man. By having a kid, the good old Captain realized the days of splendid flying-out-and-shooting-things is over. He always secretly feared that one day, people in dress uniform would knock on his family's door and give Suliko and Ludmila a Federation flag. Also, years later, when Suliko was made Captain of the Sieglinde, David, now and Admiral, finally understood that it was time for him to stand down and not clinging to the Polaris and the Fleet. Two years later, after an extended mission, the Polaris and her veteran crew sailed home for the last time, accompanied by dozens of starships paying respect to the journey that shaped the world they were living in. David was proud to see the Polaris becoming a museum ship instead of being scrapped, and often held seminars for his Academy trainees aboard the ship. And deep down in his heart, he knew well that one day, the world will need him and his ship once again...
