It always did sadden me we never got to see these two actually slug it out in the movies.
That damn Star Trek VI cover art got my hopes up, too!Β

You should do one that shows the Enterprise fighting off a Klingon battlecruiser right after her fight with Khan as hinted in some of the comics set before the Search for Spock

That angle justifies why this ship is a classic - and WAY better than the Bird of Prey!

Reminds of the STOL artwork where the Refit and the Excelsior class, against a Klingon fleet never fired one shot.

Very cool. The silhouette of the K't'inga across the planet is wonderfully ominous.
And it's in widescreen letterbox format!

You hit on something that's always irritated me.Β
Realistically, there shouldn't be a letter after the ship's name just because a new craft has been commissioned, since the name would only be used on one ship at any time.Β
It's not like Starfleet (or any navy) would have three ships of different class with the same name.
Besides, since so many names have been reused on Starfleet ships, it seems almost all the ships in the fleet would have some letter after their names.

As CaptainZammo implies, the NCC-1701A designation was to keep the pennant number alive post refit.
Why the B through E would have carried the same pennant number on new keels is a different matter.

Technically, each ship WAS named just Enterprise.Β The letters after the name were used by the fans to designate each ship, and by Starfleet to keep the Construction Contract number goingΒ (NCC-1701)Β But both the original Enterprise and her successor (NCC1701A) were in the same class of shipsΒ And the Original Enterprise was updated to the specs that were seen after Search for Spock/Voyage Home in the NEW Enterprise.
