Description
It's 2293, days after the signing of the Khitomer Accords. The Enterprise returns to Earth to be decommissioned. Meanwhile, a proud Admiral Metlesits escorts her daughter to her first assignment on a starship. But Section 31 raises its ugly head once again, angered at Captain Kirk foiling the assassination plot. Section 31 joins forces with militarist Klingon renegades to spark a war between the Federation and the Klingon Empire. After decades, Kirk and Metlesits join forces once again to fight a superior enemy. The Klingon cruiser and the two Federation ships fight to a standstill, up till The Distance: the point where all three have depleted their weapons arsenal. In a then-unorthodox mode, Metlesits orders the deflector to be used as a weapon, setting a precedent.
As for the Polaris and her crew at the end of the TMP era:
Metlesits is an Admiral, head of the outbound defence projects, thus keeping the Polaris for decades. He finally married Ludmila and they have a grown-up daughter, Suliko.
Nussbaum is a Captain of his own vessel. He answers Metlesits's call when the Admiral re-assembles his old crew for a final stand-off against Section 31.
Ainsworth and Heimann are married. Ainsworth teaches astronomy at the University of Oxford, Heimann works on the first Tzenkethi-Terranglo dictionary. They also return to space service to help Metlesits.
White Eagle and Dr. Kelley both remained on the Polaris, having no roots on Earth or any colony.
Jiménez left space service and founded his own cargo shipping line. He, too, answers Metlesits's call.
Kore Thalassa is the new tactical officer and XO of the Polaris. Metlesits hand-picked her to become his successor on the upcoming Starship Polaris.
The USS Polaris is stated to be decommissioned in 2400, simultaneously with the launch of the new Polaris NCC-2782.
Thus, the crew and their ship led a good life. But till their mission ends... decades of adventure awaits them!

Even in the 24th. She was decommissioned in 2300 and became a museum ship. She returned to active duty once more, as part of the emergency reactivation fleet during the Borg Invasion. She was commanded by Commander Kirsten Heimann, of the late TNG era Polaris (destroyed in the previous year's Supercube event). She time-warped the Polaris to pick up Captain Metlesits, as the old man was dead by the time of the Invasion. The old Admiral accepted his final mission, using his leadership skills and pure willpower to reach out into the heart of the collective, finding Sedin of the Caeliar. He departed with Sedin to teach her of the value of life, leaving the Polaris behind, asking Heimann to keep her safe. Heimann returned the Polaris to Earth, where the ship became an even more legendary memorial.

Nice work but just one question. Why does it look like the ship is firing out of the deflector dish?

All weapons are depleted and the Polaris needed something. Thus the concept of using a concentrated deflector burst was born.

You know, you'd need the USS Yamato for the first use of the deflector in wave motion gun-mode...

Hehe

Interesting to see the TOS dhip in TMP, it does give a fell of the First Fleet using what they can get and not getting all the luxuries of Starfleet. You've given them a fell of a struggling organisation and it's a great image. I love you new K't'inga model.

Thank you very much!
Not only the First Fleet, but all planetary navies use hardwre that is obsolete compared to Starfleet tech. Core worlders usually get better ones, often nearing capital ship levels (Pallada VS Connie, for example), other members get things like Moskvas or even Daedaluses (Daedali?), and colonial defence forces usually use modified cargo ships.

And where ever you got the idea that you're anything close to being a douche-bag, I hope you stop going there. You're a decent person (thanks so much, again, for the Pawnee) and still my fave 3d ship builder.

Looks like the Polaris is using a similar trick that the 1701-D used in Best Of Both Worlds
And since this image is taking place in 2293, shouldn't the NCC-2782 be launched in 2300, not 2400 like you wrote?

thefirstfleet In reply to Hummakavuula [2011-09-05 20:48:50 +0000 UTC]
I did. It was the Snegurochka class. But after I re-booted the "franchize" (no Sunbomb and shit), I kept the old ship. The TMP/Sneg version is to be the one that follows the old Pallada in 2400.

The First Fleet used such old hardware up till the 23rd century. Better than the Caitians, though, poor things were still using Moskvas...
TOS deflectors did it: I remember the Enterprise trying this method on an asteroid in an episode.
