Description In the early days of the Dominion War, the Jem'Hadar fighters became the most feared things for many Starfleet officers. Although quickly overshadowed by the more massive designs, this small, nimble ship was capable of taking down Starfleet's biggest, most advanced ships. Fighting one became a task many who were seeking glory yearned for. Not many who have actually done it lived to actually tell the tale...

Gunner: Captain! The joke had no effect!
Captain: Increase power to the humor emitters!
Gunner: It's no use! He's not getting it! He's gonna post "Wat?"!!
Captain: ALL HANDS BRACE FOR IMPACT

Brace for impact? do you intend on ramming into a fellow Federation ship?

Doctor: It's too late, captain. His funny bone's been completely disintegrated.
Captain: Who could do such a thing?!
Doctor: I wish I knew, sir. All I can tell you now is that he'll be forever confined to that chair, commenting questions for "yes" and statements for "no".
Captain: I swear, I will FIND whoever did this. Do whatever it takes, doctor - that man WILL know humor again!

Knight3000 [2018-02-26 21:04:49 +0000 UTC]

The Dominion fighters were no way puny they were definitely bigger than a Runabout though and it took two kamikaziing the Odyssee to take her out.
What got them the advantage was the energy dampening weapons they had that most Federation starships couldn't overcome til later and it was the Klingons that solved that problem

thefirstfleet In reply to Knight3000 [2018-02-27 18:18:46 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah!

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Omega719 In reply to Knight3000 [2018-02-26 21:22:21 +0000 UTC]

Partially true. The energy dampening weapons weren't introduced until the Breen joined the war.

During the Odyssey's battle with the Dominion, it was discovered that Federation Shields couldn't block Dominion phased polaron weapons at which point Captain Keogh ordered shield power transferred to the weapons which left the Odyssey vulnerable to the ramming and self-destructing of the Jem'Hadar Attack ship.

The issue with the shields wouldn't be solved until after the Federation captured a crashed Attack Ship in The Ship.

During the most of the war, the biggest issue with them wasn't their strength but pure numbers combined with the ability to rapidly replace lost ships and personnel.

Knight3000 In reply to Omega719 [2018-02-26 21:32:47 +0000 UTC]

Oh yes the Breen had the energy dampening I got them confused. The Polaron weapons the Dominion had were a bitch and yes the dominion fighters were reminiscent of the tie fighters in Star Wars where they swarm ships

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Omega719 In reply to Knight3000 [2018-02-26 21:49:06 +0000 UTC]

Aye.

And also of how they have horrible design flaws. Remember when in Treachery, Faith and the Great River a Danube class runabout was able to target the dorsal field junction and destroy the entire ship with their shields up?

Archanubis In reply to Omega719 [2018-02-26 22:57:40 +0000 UTC]

Yes, but it took a Dominion defector to reveal that (to Odo in particular).  Apparently Starfleet wasn't aware of that little flaw, or they would have had runabouts blowing up Jem'Hadar "fighters" left and right even before then (should have kept their salvaged attack ship longer).

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Omega719 In reply to Archanubis [2018-02-26 23:03:40 +0000 UTC]

Oh I know, I just didn't feel that bit of data was relevant.

Apparently Starfleet wasn't aware of that little flaw, or they would have had runabouts blowing up Jem'Hadar "fighters" left and right even before then (should have kept their salvaged attack ship longer).Well I theorize that the flaw is only present in Alpha Quadrant made Attack Ships as a result of the compromise of having to build them in unfamiliar shipyards and in ever larger numbers for the war effort.

Either that or that system was destroyed when the Attack Ship crash-landed.

Knight3000 In reply to Omega719 [2018-02-26 22:06:55 +0000 UTC]

Yeah considering how small they were compared to the Jem`Hadar fighters

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Omega719 In reply to Knight3000 [2018-02-26 22:40:30 +0000 UTC]

Aye.

It's either that or Federation technology just packs that much of a punch.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TrekkieGal In reply to Omega719 [2018-02-27 01:20:54 +0000 UTC]

Simple fact, the Dominion Attack ships were smaller than every vessel in the Federation.  There size was comparable to it's Purpose build.  They had no crew quarters, Mess Halls, weapon lockers, Lifepods, not even a chair.  Between propulsion, weapons, and life support, it didn't need much.  Yet a ship it's size (68.3 meters) it packed as much power as let's say a Defiant Class.  It would also make in more maneuverable than the Defiant, and possibly as maneuverable to a Danube Class Runabout (23 meters).  Add the fact a wing of Jen Hedar Attack ships are possibly as deadly as going up against a Galaxy Class Cruiser multiplied by 5.  You might take some of them out, but hell if you will be walking out this dance.

Omega719 In reply to TrekkieGal [2018-02-27 01:54:45 +0000 UTC]

True, although I wouldn't rank them as being Defiant levels of strength. I'd say closer to a Miranda, Centaur, or Saber given their performance.

Still damn impressive for it's size though.

TrekkieGal In reply to Omega719 [2018-02-27 01:56:04 +0000 UTC]

NOTE: For a small ship, it has WAY too much power....sounds like a Defiant to me.

Omega719 In reply to TrekkieGal [2018-02-27 02:44:53 +0000 UTC]

I know, I was expanding on that by comparing relative strengths.

Although now the you mention it, this is also similar to how the Miranda was originally pitched during the production of Wrath of Khan.
