Man I love Frollo! Up until recently I never really did..but thats mainly because I hadn't seen The hunchback of Notre Dame since I was a kid. I remember hating him and the movie in general because it didn't have that typical child friendly Disney flair.
Now that I'm all grown up suddenly a new light shines on Frollo. Now I understand what this guys problem was the whole time, his own hypocricy! He was so afraid to admit his own human flaws that he blamed his lust for the gypsy Esmeralda on witchcraft, LOL. In turn, she needed to die so that he would be cleansed of sin, even though he planned on exterminating the gypies in Paris.
Double standards much? Afraid of the sin of lust but not the sin of wrath? pffft. But hey this is why I like Frollo. He can't live up to his own standards as a human being lettalone a holy man.
Disney, I DEMAND that you make more vicious villains like this one.

Anyway I tried to do this one little by little each time I had a chance this week in between assignments and moving houses. Its been a very busy few months for me and this is the first deviation Ive actually done since probably December.
How sad... At least I'm experimenting with style a little?
Also, the requests I received in December will be uploaded very soon. Now that things are settling down I may have time to scratch my head a little
P.S. LOOK CLOSELY. Esmeralda's dancing in the fire!

I love Frollo. Essentially because of how believable of a villain he -is-. He's someone that could in all reality exist in our world and that makes him in a way easy to understand, and easy to loathe.
Lovely use of color, I think you have a nice composition here all around. A stronger contract may jump out with a bit more blue used on the highlights on Frollo that aren't made by the fire (since the fire is after all to his backside) - but other than that, I think it's well composed, balanced, and shows a lot of emotion about his internal conflict.

Gorgeous depth and use of colour. I love Frollo's expression, he's so totally caught out by the fireplace. xD And yeah, I used to hate Frollo, too. When I was small I had a Frollo toy, I think I got it from a Happy Meal or something, anyway I remember destroying the toy mercilessly because I thought he was such a bastard in the film. Makes me dearly regret it now. xD

Yes, Frollo's biggest flaw was assuming he could have no flaw. In his eyes, man was wicked and man was vile, but no, not himself! He was a man of God, he could do no sin, at least... not of his own free will... So his lust HAD to be witchcraft, of course! But dear Frolllo, you are but a man yourself, and that is why you must fall.

I finally watched this movie again back in December--and damn Frollo is creepy--perhaps Disney's creepiest villain--simply because he's human.
"Hellfire" is amazing--I always wondered if that guard that interrupted Frollo's fiery orgasm heard the nutjob singing.
I love how you drew Esmeralda in the fire.
