Description ...On my poor soul. Dare I say I'm feeling something TREACHEROUS in my pants?

It must be gypsy witchcraft!"

Man I love Frollo! Up until recently I never really did..but thats mainly because I hadn't seen The hunchback of Notre Dame since I was a kid. I remember hating him and the movie in general because it didn't have that typical child friendly Disney flair.

Now that I'm all grown up suddenly a new light shines on Frollo. Now I understand what this guys problem was the whole time, his own hypocricy! He was so afraid to admit his own human flaws that he blamed his lust for the gypsy Esmeralda on witchcraft, LOL. In turn, she needed to die so that he would be cleansed of sin, even though he planned on exterminating the gypies in Paris.

Double standards much? Afraid of the sin of lust but not the sin of wrath? pffft. But hey this is why I like Frollo. He can't live up to his own standards as a human being lettalone a holy man.

Disney, I DEMAND that you make more vicious villains like this one.

Anyway I tried to do this one little by little each time I had a chance this week in between assignments and moving houses. Its been a very busy few months for me and this is the first deviation Ive actually done since probably December.

How sad... At least I'm experimenting with style a little?

Also, the requests I received in December will be uploaded very soon. Now that things are settling down I may have time to scratch my head a little

P.S. LOOK CLOSELY. Esmeralda's dancing in the fire!

If anything he's just creepy...I agree though, he does have some pretty amazing songs. I haven't read th real version of it, but my friend who did told me it was quite different, which I believed, and that it was really good, so maybe I'll read it sometime soon.

Yes, I know how you feel! I suddenly appreciated everything about that movie so much more when I got older! I recommend you read the book, too!

Great piece! I love his expression, lol

My criticism with Hunchback was not that it wasn't 'kid friendly' (which is typical for Disney flicks), rather that it was because it dumbed down and kiddified a very adult story.

I understand making changes so it is more accessible to a general audience...but I think they may have gone a little too far. I dunno...

I may have to revisit this one though, simply because "everyone" (not sure who that actually is) says that it was terrible and I only saw it once in High School when my English teacher was criticizing it.

Yeah in comparison to the book the characters and the storyline have all changed alot. Made me wonder why Disney even chose to turn this book into a movie because the original story was very tragic. Most of the movie was a miss..there were too many loose ends and when your a child and the songs
(which Disney often fall back on) are not aimed at children, you find it difficult to piece the story together. Thats why I like "Hellfire" so much now. Now that I'm older I understand it and appreciate it.

It may be worth rewatching, if not for the movie at least for Frollo who I think is refined but under appreciated.

I think that's what turned me off of it (aside from my teacher's rantings) - the story, as Disney presented it, seemed to be missing a lot, as if points were left out or glossed over, with pointless stuff added in (the walking/talking gargoyles for example, added nothing to the story except a distraction on what was lacking).

I honestly have to wonder what Disney was thinking when they chose to do this story. There are plenty of other stories that are (more or less) fairy tales and are great stories, but are not well known or literary classics. I mean, look at 'The Little Mermaid'; it departed significantly from Hans Christian Andersen's story and yet was not as widely criticized for its departures from the source material.

Ahh yes! what were your teachers views on the movie? One thing I dislike is the vast difference in personalities.

Rumor has it that Tim Burton will be directing his own version of Hunchback. Perhaps a live action one? Knowing Burtons dark style it will mesh alot better with the novel than Disney did.

Oh she was miffed. She noted that the characters were not properly done (the young man, I don't remember his name), he was supposed to be a complete jerk for one. Certain events were either cut out completely (such as Esmerelda dying) or were changed (she did not really fall for the young man, and only cared marginally for Quasimodo).

In her opinion, she expected certain departures from the source material...but the number and degree were just far too much to make it enjoyable.

Thanks sweetie! Yeah hes a character that you need to sympathise with but its really hard to when hes completely mean. Most the Disney villains have a personality trait that still pleases the audience e.g their humor, but Frollo is just bad in general. Even his song is about unrequited love and because of that he wants to kill her. I guess I like the movie as a whole now because I understand it better and I can appreciate a different kind of villain like him.

And thanks! Nah i havent been on da for some time. Ive been REALLY busy so Ive had zero time to do any work til now

His facial structure here somewhat reminds me of Hades too lol

HAHA I thought the same thing. Probably because of the shading on the dark side of his face. Could it be that they are in fact ONE and the SAME?

LOL I never even thought of those points but shit you are right. This is just evidence that Disney uses its story/character formulas over and over again

can't say that I've seen disney's version of hunchback ..
I sorta missed out on that one.

but , I will say this about your image ..
he looks rather confused yet cruel , well detailed and love the flames behind them..
I'm not sure if it's my attraction to fire(s) but I am more distracted by them then anything
however it's not distracting from the piece

ANDDDDDDDDDD

glad to see you're still living!!
was wondering what happened to you!

theharmine In reply to jodipheonix [2011-03-02 12:00:05 +0000 UTC]

Yes in the Disney version he's alot more cruel. I know that in the novel he was more of a tragic anti-hero. I'm glad you like it and YES I'm still alive. Its just so wierd how everything sort of piled up on my towards the end of last year and January. I'm moving to my new house this weekend so I know once things settle down it will be all smooth sailing from there. How have you been??

jodipheonix In reply to theharmine [2011-03-02 13:45:52 +0000 UTC]

I have to check out disney now

cool , I know how much of a pain moving can be ..
I hate it with a passion and am grateful to be
in my own home now that I am paying off .. no more
moving for this chicky!!
( though floods were a pain had to shift stuff
up high and then clean and put it all back )

hope it settles for you soon

I'm doing well. have a major mouse issue because of
the floods , have killed 28 of the lil @&#_)#*#*@! in
the last 3 weeks , 15 of them within the first week of
being back in my house from when the floods happened
( I didn't get flooded but it was close and started to
leak at the levee just across the road from me but the
worker bees fixed it up and saved our township )

so yeah , other then mice , I'm pretty well thanks
have some really cool spotted marsh frogs that are just
gorgeous little things .. ( totally irrelevant!! LOL )

how are you doing ? ( besides exhaustion from moving.. )
