Description
Though intended for Valentines Day, I had a last minute burst of inspiration that hopefully made the suit better, plus she was – ahem– ‘busy’ that day anyway with the husband, it’s Anna Marie LeBeau – ROGUE!
The main point of this series isn't to reinvent the wheel, but to distill each character down to a design that I believe captures their core essence by combining as many of their iconic looks as possible, diversifying silhouettes/designs by incorporating aspects unique to the character, and building an X-motif into the very design of the suit instead of simply adding an X-buckle or patch. At one extreme, that means creating a totally brand new design if they've never had an iconic look before while at the extreme opposite end, it means barely tweaking a few things (as with Remy)

Ah, the Mississippi gal turned “Evil Mutant” turned heroic X-Man turned to the Mrs. X. She’s had a lot of designs over the years, but my basic design more or less fell together in a fairly natural way… it was only the coloring & details that gave me any trouble and that mostly stemmed from the frustrating fact that her 90s look is paradoxically her most iconic design of all time AND a complete and total outlier compared to pretty much all of her other suits. So it became a question of how to bring together the iconic 90s look with the elements that are more quintessentially Rogue throughout ALL the decades.
SHORT CUTE HAIR: From her 80s debut, Rogue was depicted with various short haircuts. In the Aughts, both X-Treme’s Salvador Larroca & X-Men Evolution gave her a cute little bob cut and since then, she’s sported various styles from long straight hair to ponytails to Pepe Larraz’s cute shoulder length messy style in Uncanny Avengers. The 90s BIG curls were a total outlier that strikes me as more Wanda & Kitty than Anna Marie, but I did take inspiration from another part of the 90s – Joe Madureira’s short Motoko-esque AoA hair, combined with Evolution’s paler face, add a dash of Pepe Larraz’s messy cuteness & voila.
ICONIC COLORS - GREEN, BLACK, WHITE (& YELLOW): Nearly every single Rogue design has been primary green or featured a prominent green piece, with the secondary & tertiary colors usually being black & white. There are two major exceptions/outliers, the Jim Lee 90s yellow, green, & brown design and the Salvador Larroca X-Treme red & black design… but the latter is not nearly as universally beloved or iconic like the former is. I needed to squeeze in some yellow due to how popular the 90s look still is but boy did it make my life a lot harder lol
JACKET: The jacket design came together pretty fast. The structure is more or less Jim Lee’s 90s brown jacket, but since it’s the most important piece of the suit design, I went with her more iconic green color instead of brown. Adding a hoodie underneath along with the asymmetric white stripe calls back to her original/various modern suits she’s worn. The extremely cropped cut of the jacket comes from my personal favorite Rogue design ever, John Romita Jr’s green crop top over black leotard from the 80s.
X-MOTIF - X-BELTS: The crossed white belts forming an X was a design element of JRJR’s 80s design, my favorite, and so it was a no-brainer to use for her X-Motif.
80s+90s UNDERSUIT: The undersuit is the basic black leotard she wore in the 80s albeit with a yellow “shield” across the upper chest that’s patterned after that section of her 90s look. This means that when the jacket is unzipped, it’s visually reminiscent to the green-bordering-yellow look of that era and hopefully still keeps the design interesting if she loses the jacket at any point. The shield-like look originally stems from wanting to incorporate some Evolution aspects into the undersuit design and in that series, she had an armored chest-piece and triangular shield-like shoulder pads.
90s GLOVES + 80s BOOTS: Perhaps the two elements of the suit I’m not 100% sold on and it all comes down to trying to balance the outlier 90s look with the rest. If I made the undersuit have a green upper chest & ditched the 90s almost entirely, then either white or green gloves worked; but the yellow chest felt out of place without anything else matching it… but ALL yellow gloves looked kinda off with the jacket ON. This seemed like the best compromise regardless of configuration as it brings in the white of the belts & jacket but has the yellow to match the undersuit & gold accents elsewhere. I’m a bit more pleased with the boots but I was VERY torn on whether I should make them the thigh high 90s boots (as seen by the older variant in the upper right corner) and if so, what color as it couldn’t be yellow or it would take away from the 80s look I so love and look odd with the green jacket haha. Like I said… that damn 90s outlier-but-mega-popular/iconic design! There’s a decent chance several tweaks will be made the next time she’s posted alongside another character.
WEDDING BAND: The wedding band was designed to have been made by Roxanne Washington a.k.a. Bling! She was a student of Rogue's during their time on Utopia and had a small role in their wedding, so I thought this would be a cute detail.
PALE SKIN: The paler skin tone I felt helped allude to her more isolated and alienated history because of her inability to touch others which is I’m pretty sure the logic behind it for Evo. It may not 100% make sense nowadays but I didn’t make it as extremely pale as Evo to sort of account for her greater exposure to people (and all those 90s swimsuit specials!)
BODY TYPE - CURVY, BUFF: I was semi-tempted to make Rogue the string bean she originally was, but quickly pivoted since I was already mostly incorporating so many other 80s, modern, & Evo aspects in lieu of anything 90s, so I opted instead to go with a body type based a bit more on the 90s look which goes well with the fun-loving “sugah!” vibes, powerhouse tank roles she often has, and even the goth-lite look from Evo. That, of course, also presented an opportunity to draw that meme-worthy booty.
STRIP POKER: For the thirsty among you, there's a "strip poker" version matching a similar variant I drew of Gambit. Mostly just did those two for fun since they're the hottest X-couple imo.

I got plenty more redesigns so sound off on who you wanna see!
