Description
So from left to right we have Cassandra Cain, Barbara Gordon, and Stephanie Brown: the girls who took up the batgirl mantle. They appear to be on some sort of stakeout. Stephanie brought popcorn.Cassandra Cain is by favorite Batgirl. Barbara is awesome, but I liked her much better as Oracle. There aren't a lot of disables superheros out there, so she was great to have around. It was downright inspirational how after her injury, she managed to do even more good for the world than she did before.
Just to try something new, I tried colored characters against a grey background.

Ah, the girls out for a night on the town.
The whimsical nature to this one is charming, and there's something perfectly suiting to having the background of Gotham City grey, while they remain in color.
I also agree with you about Barbara--I like her a lot more as Oracle for the same reasons. It really gave her a complexity to her character.

Yes, someone who agrees with me! Do you think they're ever unreboot the reboot, or is this some line that cannot be crossed?

Well the whole storyline of Barbara getting shot was a serious one, involving the Joker no less, so you'd THINK they'd have sense enough to leave it alone...I mean, without Barabara getting crippled, you wouldn't even HAVE Oracle--and she's become such a strong and driving character as is. And what's more, it makes DC stand out just a bit to have a disabled character that's a hero of sorts too. Marvel and DC have tried for ages to have some sort of diversity with their characters, but with limited success. And the problem with so many of the female heroes is that they tend to be clones of the males in name or nature, so having one stand on her OWN, without having to copy a male that wore the mantle first, is a nice change. (I think DC has always had the edge there with Wonder Woman though.)
Comics have been pretty crazy lately...the problem with having long-running series is that there's no easy way to appease the fans. You'll either alienate new readers, or scare off the old ones.
Pretty much the only comic series I've followed closely for some years has been The Amazing Spider-Man, but this last year has been a MESS. It's not even worth subscribing to because it's been so trite and lifeless. They made excellent changes for the better, and then they called for a reboot and now everything's back in its tired little niche again. And it's been over stupid little petty things.
But I'm kinda getting off-topic here...it's just that comics make some good decisions and then some bad ones. Hopefully they'll make more good than bad.

I'm probably a little more sensitive about disabled characters because of my brother, to be perfectly honest. Oracle and Professor X were his favorite, and now he's down to just professor X. Still, whether you have a disability or not, or whether your a male or male reader, or WHATEVER, you can't deny that having diversity in your characters is a great thing. Different view points make reading a comic so much more interesting.

It's perfectly true.
I hadn't actually realized they really DID go through with changing Oracle so that she walks again. <,<'
And now Marvel has killed off Professor X--so your brother has no one!
Well in that case...!
Joey and I have been discussing coming up with our own superheros. I don't know if it'll go anywhere (Marvel and DC started out small tho'), but if you or your brother have any ideas on disabled characters, we'd love to hear them! So if you've got some input, email me your thoughts on the matter. Joey has two comics in mind (a single hero, and a heroic duo), and I've got a couple single hero possibilities; but we'll need several more! Hey, ya never know, maybe we'll make our own comic-book publishing company.

Pssshhhttt! You know he'll be back soon. They actually did try to make Professor X walk again a couple times in the comic, but it never lasted. Maybe the same thing will happen to Oracle, but I'm not very optimistic.
I've actually been toying with the idea of a super hero comic myself. Be the change you want to see, right? And having a disabled character is definitely one of my priorities if I ever decide to start one.

I'm really only familiar with Barbara. Although I am aware that there has been other batgirls besides. All in all, a nice picture with very nice lighting!

I was just really happy that DC had a disabled superhero... at least Marvel still has a few.

This is great You mentioned Oracle, please consider doing a drawing of her, like you said "There aren't a lot of disables superheros out there"
( and now DC has 'erased' Oracle in the new 52 universe)
It would be great to see your take on her.

Thank you!
That's a pretty good idea, I will definitely add Oracle to my list of things to draw.

Nice artwork! I have a soft spot for all three of the Batgirls (though I'm missing Cain and Steph in the New 52.)

Yes, I need my favourite ruthless kick-asser back! In the meantime you can watch this vid of a match-up I suggested for a friend with what might happen if Cass ran into the deadly daughter of Kraven the Hunter, Ava Kravinoff: [link]

I kind of expected Cassandra to win that one, I don't think any non-superpowered person can ever beat her.

Well done. I like that you were able to make the background dark and still make things visible; good balance. I also like how they're using the gargoyle to hold the popcorn. Nice touch, that.
Much like Robin, I was unaware there were multiple Batgirls, but then, I'm not that familiar with the comic book stuff anyway.
You also did a great job with their facial expressions, but then you always do.

Yes, it always confused me why Gotham has all these gargoyles. But I suppose, if I wander down that line of thinking, I should really be questioning why a man is dressed as a giant bat to fight crime. And that kind of ruins the fun.
Yup, there were three batgirls that I know of. The blond girl at the end was also Robin for a while.

Gargoyles are a major part of gothic architecture, and Gotham is highly gothically influenced (that's why it's called Gotham). So that's what's up with the gargoyles. You're right, though; you start over-thinking things and it all sort of falls apart...
Interesting... didn't know that either. I suppose I really ought to read the comics sometime, I've just never had the inclination to.

It's not the presence of gargoyles in a city that confuses me, it's the sheer number of gargoyles concentrated in one specific area that makes me wonder about Gotham architects. Did they all have a "gargoyles on all buildings" pact? Is there some sort of pro-gargoyle law in whatever state they're in? Or is this just a popular gargoyle vacation spot? It's just... I don't know.

Gargoyles do tend to be bat-like, so maybe since we're talking about Batman there's some sort of symbolism or parallelism going on.
...Or maybe the artist who created it just liked drawing gargoyles.

This is great! I'm not too familiar with the DC universe (outside of watching Batman TAS), but I love the idea of having the three different batgirls all in the same picture. Love the silhouette of the helicopter in the background too.
