Hey, guys. Remember Knuckles Chaotix? No? I don't either, because I was born in 2002, therefore depriving me of the same childhood nostalgia as you with your SEGA Genesis or 32x. And you probably don't remember it either because of many reasons, like the tether-ring mechanic.
Well, in that game, there is a group of artifacts known as the Chaos Rings, which are required to beat Metal Sonic and get the true ending, like other Sonic Games. Here, they're used to combine Sonic and Shadow into Sonow.
The Chaos Rings were formed in the dimensional space by Newtrogic High Zone's special Rings, where the Master Emerald's pillar energy crystalized into six rings. Knuckles, Mighty, and the Chaotix retrieved them to defeat Metal Sonic Kai and stop Dr. Eggman's ambition from coming to pass. The Chaos Rings were said to house near-limitless power, though not as powerful as the Chaos Emeralds, and even discovered a unique ability between them.
