Yes, this was done by my wife. It truly is a great job, I agree. Thanks for stopping to view it.

Oh for the patience I'll never have.....I may be able to cross-stitch given a pattern, but I never could even knit. Such a disappointment to my extremely creative and resourceful grandmothers....
The detail is exceptional and I wish you all the best!
I've always had a love for native artwork. My best ability is dream catchers. One of the only useful things I learned while in Girl Guides. *S*

Thank you. I wish I had beaded it - I didn't. I drew the original pencil design, and my sweetie beaded it. Took me roughly 100 hours and her over 130 hours.

Now I wonder... What is the symbolism behind it? Is there any?

There is in fact symbolism. The original, which is a pencil drawing about 1 meter across contains far more detail than the beaded version. I drew it to commemorate several generations of women on my mother's side of my family. We are a matrilineal culture, which means that we take our names, our territories, our histories from our mother's side.
The largest outer design represents my grandmother and her sister. There are inner designs (my Featured Deviation fits inside the circles you see in this one), which represent my mother and her maternal female cousins, and inside those are my sisters and their cousins, and inside those are their children.

That is an incredible tribute to them. They must have been pleased to see it. Knowing the story behind it makes it that much more beautiful.

It is beautiful, isn't it? I'm very proud to wear it.
