Description
Β©2007 Sarah B. SeiterSomeone requested pics of the male stallion, so even though he is nowhere near done yet, here are some teaser pics of him. I am going for a really strong draft horse look with him to contrast with the female one

That's too cool for school dude! What are you making that out of? And do you sell your dolls, or make them to order?

I first sculpt them with Super Sculpty then make molds and cast them in resin. I am still working on perfecting them, but do plan to sell them eventually

Oh that's cool! Well, depending on how much you charge, I might be interested. Your profile says you commissions, but can work with like pictures of how I might want the doll to look? Like face and body wise.

Well, the commissions I usually take are for the wing sets or doll clothing.
To make a resin doll from scratch takes a really long time (several months) from all the sculpting to the mold making then poring the resin, not to mention material costs. I could make a custom doll, but it would likely run into the thousands to create.
I could sculpt a one of a kind clay doll for maybe around $600-$700 depending on what you want, but it would be more breakable so you would have to be super careful with it.
There is a lot more to doll making than I thought there would be when I started my own dolls
Happy New Years!

Ah, I see, yeah, I tried my hand at it, but jeez, it's alot of work from shopping for the materials to actually making something. I was actually curious if you could like take a [naked/unused] doll you had already and just like redo the hair and face make up. Your dolls are gorgeous and I'd love to have one!
And happy new years to you! Did you do anything?

Ah, I do customizations too The price in that case would totally depend on the doll and whether I was providing it, or if it is one you already have
Thanks

You know, like a pretty asian doll with long flowing black hair, but with a tan and purple and blue eyes. I've found dolls that were similar but their faces are either too cartoonyish or no tannish colored skin.
I don't really care what type of doll you'd use, as long as it's not like a baby or toddler looking doll. But like that Lily doll you made would be a perfect example, but with long black hair and a tan.

Your dolls-sculptures are awesome, I can't wait to see them finished!!
Really, this work is totally enthralling to me!
What material did you use to sculpt them?
And what are you going to do when all the pieces are done? Cast them so that you make some, or just keep the original?
And how do you keep the joints together?

TheMushroomPeddler In reply to Lluhnij [2007-04-16 14:42:17 +0000 UTC]
Thanks
I am sculpting them mostly with Super Sculpey along with a small amount of Magic Sculpt for things like the claws since it is much stronger.
I plan to cast them in resin and offer them for sale within the next 2-3 months. They will be strung with elastic similarly to the other ball jointed dolls out there

We're casting them in resin. We'll be opening a doll store sometime in the next few months, right now we're... waiting for all the casting to be finished to make sure we have a good quality product before we offer it to the public. It'll be really amazing when it's all done.
Sarah sculpted them in sculpy, and the joints will be strung together with elastic. Like the classical ball jointed dolls (all the pieces are hollow to allow the string to run through).

AWWWWWWWWWWW!
More "AWWWWWWWs"!!!!
I love ball jointed dolls (I discovered their existance just lately) and well... if you ever decide to make a ball jointed doll of an elf, this might be one of the super-rare events when I will save up money for something!
Super-AWWWWW!
I wish you all the good luck with the store! What a wonderful thing!

Many of my male dolls will use this same body with different heads, hands, and feet to make them into different animals... so, the kitty boy, when I get to him, will be very yummy

I am thinking about making alternate "human" legs for him as well, so he should look good with a lot of the different heads out there⦠though some of the more girly ones might be a bit too much of a contrast lol
